Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Government Affairs Manager
Frame your credentials around policy analysis
TN eligibility for this role rests on the Social Science category, so your resume and credential package must connect your degree directly to policy research, regulatory analysis, or legislative strategy, not just general management experience.
Target employers with active government relations teams
Trade associations, lobbying firms, and large regulated industries like healthcare, energy, and telecommunications routinely sponsor Government Affairs Managers and have HR processes already built for TN filings. Focus your search there.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-ready employers
Migrate Mate filters job listings by TN visa sponsorship history so you can focus on Government Affairs Manager roles where the employer already understands the filing process, cutting weeks off your job search.
Clarify your TN entry method with your employer early
Canadian citizens can obtain TN status same-day at a port of entry with an employer support letter and credential proof. Mexican citizens need a consular appointment. Aligning on timeline before accepting an offer prevents start-date mismatches.
Verify your degree satisfies the Social Science field requirement
CBP officers assess whether your undergraduate degree falls under social sciences, political science, economics, or a closely related field. A political science or public policy degree is straightforward; a business degree alone may require additional documentation showing policy focus.
Request a detailed offer letter covering your duties
The employer's support letter must describe your specific duties in terms that map to social science functions recognized under USMCA. Vague titles like 'manager' without policy-specific language have caused TN denials at the port of entry.

Find Government Affairs Manager JobsGovernment Affairs Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Government Affairs Manager role qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, Government Affairs Manager positions typically qualify under the Social Science occupational category in the USMCA TN list, which covers roles involving policy analysis, legislative strategy, and regulatory engagement. CBP evaluates whether your actual job duties align with social science functions and whether your degree matches that field. Roles focused purely on executive management with no policy analysis component can face scrutiny.
How does TN compare to H-1B for a Government Affairs Manager position?
TN is faster and more predictable for this role. H-1B requires entering an annual lottery with no guaranteed selection, while TN has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadians. Mexican citizens face a separate TN allocation but still avoid the H-1B lottery entirely. TN is employer-specific and must be renewed when you change jobs, but it can be renewed indefinitely in two or three-year increments depending on entry method.
What documents does my employer need to provide for TN sponsorship?
Your employer must provide a detailed support letter on company letterhead stating your job title, a description of duties tied to social science functions, your expected salary, the employment period, and confirmation you are a citizen of Canada or Mexico. The letter is not filed with USCIS in advance for Canadian citizens but is presented to CBP at the port of entry along with your credentials and degree transcripts.
Where can I find Government Affairs Manager jobs that already sponsor TN visas?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking TN visa sponsorship. The platform surfaces Government Affairs Manager listings from employers with recent visa filings, so you spend less time cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with sponsoring work visas and more time engaging employers experienced with the visa process.
Can I switch employers on a TN visa while working as a Government Affairs Manager?
Yes, but TN status is employer-specific, so you cannot start work with a new employer on your existing TN authorization. Canadian citizens can obtain a new TN at a port of entry with the new employer's support letter before starting. Mexican citizens must apply for a new TN visa at a U.S. consulate. Timing the transition carefully prevents unauthorized employment, since there is no grace period for concurrent work with a new employer.
