About us
Red Cell Partners is an incubation firm building and investing in rapidly scalable technology-led companies that are bringing revolutionary advancements to market in three distinct practice areas: healthcare, cyber, and national security. United by a shared sense of duty and deep belief in the power of innovation, Red Cell is developing powerful tools and solutions to address our Nation’s most pressing problems.
About the Role:
We are seeking a Head of Design to lead and execute product design across Red Cell and its portfolio companies. This is a hands-on role for a design leader who thrives in ambiguity, can operate across the full startup lifecycle, and is equally comfortable drafting early concepts and building scalable design systems. Product design at Red Cell is not a service function. It is a core operating capability that shapes products, companies, and brands from inception through growth. You will be both a design operator and design leader - setting direction while actively doing the work. This role will also dedicate up to 25% time to supporting Red Cell’s Marketing, Brand, and Communications team in web development efforts for Red Cell Partners’ and our incubation companies’ digital presence. This is a remote role, with travel expectations to attend our bi-annual All Hands and other travel as needed (~10% or less).
What You Will Do:
- Partner closely with founders, product, engineering, and leadership to translate ambiguous problem spaces into clear, actionable product design direction.
- Build early concepts and future-state prototypes to test ideas quickly and inform strategy.
- Create and own overall design concepts for the User Experience, for web/mobile/agents/wearables and other emerging modalities, using the latest research and trends to ensure all interactions and designs are intuitive and easy for customers (& investors) to understand.
- Design and ship high-quality products and improvements, from early concepts to high-fidelity prototypes and visuals.
- Personally design and ship work across product UX/UI, prototypes, brand systems, and storytelling.
- Work closely with Marketing on implementing style and branding elements into RCP & its investments’ User Experiences.
- Establish lightweight frameworks, standards, and patterns that enable speed without bureaucracy.
- Help define how design scales as companies mature - from scrappy early builds to durable, repeatable systems.
- Navigate unclear requirements, evolving priorities, and high-stakes decisions with confidence. Balance speed, quality, and pragmatism in fast-moving environments.
What We’re Looking For:
- 12+ years of experience in product, UX & front-end design, including leadership roles in high-growth startups or scale-ups.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or related field.
- Strong understanding of AI fundamentals and their application in product experiences.
- Knowledge of front-end development languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Expert Figma, Figma Make skills, or equivalent product skills: component libraries, auto-layout, variants, prototyping, design tokens.
- Deep understanding of responsive, mobile-first design.
- Demonstrated success designing across multiple phases of company growth - from concept to scaled product.
- Exceptional craft across UX, visual design, systems thinking, and storytelling.
- Strong product intuition and the ability to connect user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
- Proven ability to develop experiences that meet or exceed the initial proposal of a product or experience, including the development of transformational innovation strategies and the creation of 'north star' representations to drive customer-centric decision-making.
You Might Thrive in This Role If You:
- Are a “self-starter” - a versatile team player who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys building clarity where none exists.
- Can frame strong rationales for design decisions and persuade peers and executives.
- Are a systems thinker – able to see the big picture, understanding how various elements of a system are interconnected and influence each other.
- Are passionate about creating simple and intuitive user experiences that resonate with users.
- Enjoy using AI tools to accelerate development and are passionate about experimenting with new technologies.
Compensation:
Base salary of $200,000-$250,000 plus bonus. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience, skills, and other factors.
Our Red Cell Partners Benefits:
For full-time roles:
- Career track opportunity with potential for rapid advancement with strong performance as the firm grows.
- 100% employer paid, comprehensive health care including medical, dental, and vision for you and your family.
- Paid maternity and paternity for 14 weeks at employees' normal pay.
- Unlimited PTO, with management approval.
- Opportunities for professional development and continued learning.
- Optional 401K, FSA, and equity incentives available.
- Mental health benefits are available through Tara Mind.
- Cost effective GLP-1 solutions available through Crux.
We’re an Equal Opportunity Employer: You’ll receive consideration for employment without regard to race, sex, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, or on the basis of disability.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Head Of Design
Align your portfolio to specialty occupation standards
TN approval depends on proving the Head of Design role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Frame your portfolio and resume around degree-specific competencies, not general creative leadership, to satisfy the specialty occupation requirement.
Search employers with recent visa filings in design
Use Migrate Mate to filter job listings by companies with recent visa filings in design and creative leadership, so you're targeting employers already experienced with sponsoring work visas and USMCA requirements.
Confirm your degree field matches the job description
Officers scrutinize whether your degree ties directly to design, not adjacent fields like marketing or communications. If your degree title is ambiguous, get a credential evaluation from a USCIS-recognized agency before your border or consular appointment.
Ask employers to include scope language in your offer letter
Your offer letter must describe the Head of Design role in terms that reflect specialty occupation criteria. Vague titles like 'creative lead' without degree requirements listed in the letter are a common reason for TN denials at the port of entry.
Understand Mexican nationals face an annual TN allocation
Unlike Canadians who apply at the border, Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate and are subject to an annual numerical cap. Start the consular appointment scheduling process early, especially if your target start date falls in the second half of the fiscal year.
Prepare for status changes if the role evolves significantly
If your Head of Design responsibilities shift substantially after entry, such as taking on business development or executive duties outside your original TN scope, USCIS expects you to document the change. While TN visas don't require advance government filings like other visa categories, you should inform your employer so they can support you with updated documentation if needed for future border crossings or visa extensions.

Find Head Of Design JobsHead Of Design TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Head of Design role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, but qualification depends on how the role is defined. The position must require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as graphic design, industrial design, architecture, or a related engineering discipline. If the offer letter describes the role in terms that apply to any general manager without a specific degree, a CBP officer may deny the TN at the port of entry.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Head of Design positions?
TN has no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and no USCIS petition filing for Canadian applicants who qualify at the border. H-1B requires employer sponsorship through a lottery system with a strict filing window each spring. For a Head of Design role, TN is faster and cheaper to obtain, but it does not lead to permanent residence and requires maintaining a nonimmigrant intent posture.
What documents does a Canadian need to apply for TN status as Head of Design?
You need a valid Canadian passport, an offer letter from your U.S. employer describing the role and its degree requirements, and proof of your qualifying degree such as an official transcript or diploma. Canadians present these documents directly to a CBP officer at a land border or preclearance airport. There is no advance USCIS filing or government pre-approval required—the CBP officer reviews your documents on the spot to confirm TN eligibility.
Where can I find Head of Design jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job seekers. You can filter listings by visa type and role to find Head of Design positions at employers who understand the TN sponsorship process. This saves time compared to applying broadly and then discovering an employer has never navigated USMCA professional category requirements.
Can a Mexican citizen apply for TN status as Head of Design at the border like a Canadian?
No. Mexican nationals must apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate in Mexico rather than at a port of entry. The application requires a DS-160, a consular interview, and supporting documentation. Mexican TN visas are also subject to an annual numerical allocation, so scheduling your consular appointment well in advance of your intended start date matters.
