Verify your credentials meet TN requirements
Hospice Director roles must qualify as a specialty occupation under USMCA. Gather your degree transcripts, nursing license or healthcare administration credentials, and any state-issued hospice administrator certifications before approaching employers.
Target hospice networks with existing TN history
Multi-site hospice operators and hospital-affiliated palliative care programs file TN visa petitions more routinely than standalone facilities. Focus your search on organizations with dedicated HR compliance teams who already understand the USMCA professional categories.
Search for TN-sponsored roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Hospice Director listings by TN visa sponsorship availability, so you're not cold-applying to employers unfamiliar with the process. Start your search there to reach hiring managers already open to sponsoring Canadian and Mexican professionals.
Address state licensure before your offer letter
Many states require a licensed nursing home administrator credential or a specific hospice administrator license to hold a director-level role. Confirm your state's board requirements early, since an incomplete license can delay or derail TN approval after you've accepted an offer.
Clarify who prepares the TN support letter
Your employer must provide a detailed support letter describing the role, your qualifications, and the professional category under USMCA. Ask the hiring manager during offer negotiation whether their legal team or HR handles this, so there are no surprises at the port of entry or consulate.
Understand Canadian and Mexican filing differences
Canadian citizens can present TN documentation directly to a CBP officer at the border or preclearance, often receiving same-day approval. Mexican citizens must schedule a U.S. consulate appointment and work within the annual TN allocation, so build extra lead time into your start date negotiation.
Hospice Director TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Hospice Director role qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, if the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or a closely related field. The USMCA lists several medical and allied health categories that cover director-level clinical and administrative roles in hospice and palliative care. Your offer letter and credentials must clearly establish that professional-level degree requirement to satisfy CBP or consular review.
How does the TN visa compare to the H-1B for Hospice Director positions?
The TN visa has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and can be approved at the border the same day you apply. The H-1B visa requires employer sponsorship through a lottery with a March registration window and a roughly 25% selection rate in recent fiscal years. For Canadian hospice professionals in particular, TN is a faster and more predictable path than waiting on an H-1B lottery outcome.
What documents does a Hospice Director need for TN sponsorship?
You'll need your employer's TN support letter, proof of your qualifying degree (official transcripts or a credential evaluation), any applicable state hospice or nursing home administrator license, and your valid Canadian or Mexican passport. Mexican nationals also need a DS-160 form and a consular appointment. Having all documents notarized or officially translated before your appointment prevents delays.
Where can I find Hospice Director jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is designed specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN visa sponsorship. Rather than filtering through general job boards and cold-applying, you can search Hospice Director listings on Migrate Mate that are already tagged for TN eligibility, connecting you with employers familiar with the USMCA professional process.
Can I change hospice employers on a TN visa without losing status?
Yes, but you must have a new TN approval in place before you begin work with the new employer. TN status is tied to a specific employer and role, so your new employer needs to file a fresh TN petition or accompany you to a port of entry with updated documentation. Working even one day for a new employer before that approval is in place violates your status.
