About us
CYVL is a Physical AI company on a mission to bring Infrastructure Intelligence to every city, town, and community on the planet. We help governments plan, build, and maintain the physical infrastructure that people depend on every day (roads, sidewalks, bridges, utilities, and more) better than ever before. We pioneered an end-to-end approach that combines purpose-built hardware, computer vision, cloud data pipelines, and AI to transform raw LiDAR and imagery into a living, structured understanding of the built world. Our platform turns what used to take months of manual inspection into actionable intelligence that's easy for any agency to use, saving cities time, money, and resources across hundreds of communities nationwide. At CYVL, we're building toward a future where every piece of public infrastructure on Earth is captured, understood, and continuously monitored, so the agencies responsible for it and the residents who rely on it can make better decisions, faster. That's the power of Physical AI applied to the real world. We're a fast-moving, high-growth team based in Boston, MA that believes in solving real-world problems with authenticity, simplicity, and boldness. Every member of our team is empowered to take ownership, deliver results, and leave a lasting impact on the communities we serve.
About You
We map the physical world, and our next-generation sensor is the instrument that does it. We want it to feel less like equipment and more like something you’d be proud to hold. Think Sonos: the weight of a well-made tool, premium outdoor gear that is rugged and beautiful. As our Hardware Product Designer / Design Strategist, you will own the full design vision for the CYVL sensor and prove that high-complexity mapping technology can feel genuinely human: tactile, elegant, and intuitive. This is a contract / consultant engagement (with potential to extend) based in Somerville, MA, hybrid or remote OK, reporting to the Founder & CEO in close partnership with hardware engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full design vision for the CYVL sensor: form, materials, finish, and feel
- Take shell and enclosure concepts through to refined mockups
- Make material and tactile decisions that read as premium
- Iterate tightly with our hardware and engineering team
- Deliver a handoff package ready to scale with our contract manufacturer
Qualifications
Required:
- Deep industrial design chops: you own the vision, not just the CAD
- A portfolio that shows restraint, premium materials, and intuitive physical interaction
- Fluency in CAD, material science, and the design-to-manufacturing loop
- A “less is more” design philosophy, demonstrated through your work
Nice to Have:
- Experience with products where the object in your hand carries the brand: Sonos, Apple hardware, GoPro, or high-end outdoor equipment
- A track record of making something complex feel inevitable, and a belief that less is more
Our Values
At CYVL, the technology we build directly impacts the roads people drive on, the sidewalks their kids walk to school on, and the infrastructure that keeps communities running. We move fast, we care deeply: about the work, about our customers, and about each other. This is a team where trust isn't a talking point, it's how we operate. Our values guide how we operate and shape a team that is genuinely RAARE:
Real - authentic, transparent, focused on solving real problems with simple, effective solutions.
All Out - bold, driven, and committed to delivering results that matter.
Accelerating - always learning, growing, and moving with intention.
Reliable - we follow through and deliver at a consistently high bar.
Empowering - we lift each other up and help governments build infrastructure they can be proud of.
Together, we stay curious, learn quickly, and keep raising the bar. If you want to grow, make an impact that truly matters, and be part of a team that’s shaping the future of public infrastructure, you’ll feel right at home at Cyvl.
At Cyvl, we welcome diversity in all forms. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Industrial Designer
Align your portfolio with specialty occupation standards
TN visa approval hinges on demonstrating that industrial design requires a specialized degree, not just creative skill. Structure your portfolio to show design methodology, technical documentation, and degree-level expertise rather than finished product aesthetics alone.
Target manufacturers with dedicated in-house design teams
Consumer electronics, automotive, and medical device manufacturers typically staff internal industrial designers rather than outsourcing, making them far more practiced at TN sponsorship paperwork than smaller consumer goods companies or design agencies.
Request a degree equivalency evaluation before applying
If your industrial design credential is from a Mexican or Canadian institution with a different credit structure, get a credential evaluation completed before your port of entry interview or consulate appointment. Immigration officers will scrutinize degree-to-role alignment closely for design titles.
Search TN-specific job listings using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find industrial designer roles posted by employers with recent visa filings, so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with sponsorship processes or unwilling to support visa candidates.
Clarify the role title on your offer letter before filing
CBP officers match your offer letter job title directly against the USMCA occupation list. Titles like 'UX designer' or 'product designer' can trigger requests for clarification, so confirm your employer uses 'industrial designer' explicitly in your documentation.
Prepare for port-of-entry review if you're Canadian
Canadian citizens can apply for TN status directly at a U.S. land border or airport with your offer letter, employer support letter, and degree credentials in hand. CBP adjudicates on the spot, so bring originals and copies of every document your employer prepared.
Industrial Designer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does industrial designer qualify as a TN visa occupation?
Yes. Industrial designer is a listed occupation under the USMCA TN category. To qualify, you need a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in industrial design or a closely related field, and your job duties must align with that specialty. Your employer will prepare a support letter documenting your qualifications and the role details. For Canadian citizens, you'll present this letter at the U.S. border or port of entry. For Mexican citizens, your employer submits the support letter to a U.S. consulate as part of your visa application.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for industrial designers?
The TN visa has no annual cap and no lottery for Canadians, meaning you can apply at any time of year and receive a decision the same day at the port of entry. The H-1B visa requires lottery selection, a multi-month wait, and USCIS adjudication. For Canadian industrial designers with a qualifying degree, TN is generally the faster and more predictable path.
What documentation does my employer need to prepare for TN sponsorship?
Your employer prepares a support letter that outlines your role as an industrial designer, including your job title, specific duties, employment start date, and confirmation of TN eligibility. Canadian applicants present this support letter at the U.S. border or port of entry; Mexican applicants submit it as part of their application at a U.S. consulate. The support letter demonstrates your employer's commitment to sponsoring you and ensures your role aligns with TN professional classifications.
Where can I find industrial designer jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists industrial designer roles specifically from employers with recent visa filings, so you can focus on companies already experienced with work visa sponsorship and USMCA occupation requirements. Searching by role and visa type saves time compared to applying broadly and discovering sponsorship limitations late in the process.
Can a Mexican industrial designer apply for TN status the same way a Canadian can?
No. Mexican nationals must obtain a TN visa stamp at a U.S. consulate in Mexico before traveling, which involves scheduling a visa interview and waiting for consular processing. Canadians apply directly at the port of entry without a visa interview. Both nationalities are classified under the same USMCA occupation list for Industrial Designer roles, but the application route differs.
