INTRODUCTION
Founded in 2015, Shield AI is a venture-backed deep-tech company with the mission of protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems. Its products include the V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, Hivemind Enterprise, and the Hivemind Vision product lines. With offices and facilities across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific, Shield AI’s technology actively supports operations worldwide.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Staff/Sr. Staff Product Designer role within Shield AI’s Hivemind organization is responsible for solving complex User Experience and Product Design problems associated with the end-to-end user experience of developing, deploying, testing and evaluating autonomy solutions. Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Staff Designer
Translate your portfolio into U.S. credential language
TN adjudicators evaluate whether your degree field matches the role. Frame your design education in terms of the specific discipline, industrial, graphic, or UX, so the connection to the job offer is unambiguous on your credential documents.
Target employers with recent visa filing experience
Companies experienced with visa sponsorship understand the general sponsorship process. Search for employers with recent visa filings for design roles—this shows they're familiar with work visa procedures rather than starting cold with companies unfamiliar with USMCA visa categories.
Confirm the offer letter specifies specialty occupation duties
A vague offer letter is the most common reason TN applications get delayed at the border. Make sure the letter lists degree requirements, specific design responsibilities, and your Canadian or Mexican citizenship, CBP officers rely on this document to adjudicate on the spot.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for TN-ready Staff Designer roles
Migrate Mate lets you search Staff Designer jobs by employers who have already demonstrated sponsorship willingness, so you're not spending time on postings where TN is a non-starter before the first interview.
Clarify contractor versus direct-hire status before the interview
TN visas require a direct employer-employee or qualifying contractor relationship. If a Studio or agency posts the role but places you with a client, that arrangement needs to be structured correctly, ask about the legal employer relationship before TN paperwork begins.
Request a TN support letter from your employer before entry
Canadian citizens can obtain TN status at the port of entry, but arriving without a detailed employer support letter creates delays. Have your employer prepare the letter before your travel date so CBP has everything needed to approve your status in a single inspection.

Find Staff Designer JobsStaff Designer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Staff Designer role qualify for the TN visa?
Staff Designer positions can qualify under the TN visa's engineer or scientific technician categories when the role requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant design discipline such as industrial design, graphic design, or a related engineering field. The job duties must align with the degree field, and the offer letter must clearly establish both the degree requirement and your professional responsibilities.
How does the TN visa compare to the H-1B for Staff Designer positions?
The TN visa has no annual lottery and no numerical cap for Canadian citizens, so you can apply at a U.S. port of entry as soon as you have an offer. The H-1B selection is random and capped at 85,000 per fiscal year, with most registrants waiting years to be selected. For Canadian designers with qualifying degrees, TN is a faster, more predictable route. Mexican citizens face a 5,500 annual TN allocation, making H-1B a possible parallel path.
What documents do I need to apply for a TN visa as a Staff Designer?
You'll need a valid Canadian or Mexican passport, a detailed job offer letter from your U.S. employer stating your title, duties, degree requirement, and your citizenship, and official transcripts or a credential evaluation confirming your relevant degree. Mexican citizens also need a TN visa stamp from a U.S. consulate before travel, while Canadians can present documents directly to CBP at the border or a pre-clearance location.
How do I find Staff Designer jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking TN-eligible roles in the United States. You can filter Staff Designer postings by employers with recent visa filings, which significantly narrows your search to companies where visa sponsorship support is realistic rather than theoretical. These employers have demonstrated experience navigating the visa sponsorship process, making them more likely to be familiar with TN requirements and paperwork.
Can my employer renew my TN visa if I stay on as a Staff Designer?
TN status is granted in three-year increments and can be renewed indefinitely as long as you maintain a qualifying job offer and continue to meet the occupational requirements. Your employer will need to provide an updated support letter confirming your ongoing role and duties for each renewal. Canadians can renew at the port of entry or through USCIS, while Mexican citizens renew through a U.S. consulate.
