Align your portfolio to specialty occupation standards
TN approval hinges on the role requiring a specific bachelor's degree, not just design skills. Structure your portfolio to show systems-level UX work tied to a defined discipline, so the job offer reflects a specialty occupation classification CBP will accept.
Target companies with dedicated immigration infrastructure
Mid-size and enterprise tech firms that have filed TN petitions before already have legal processes in place. Ask recruiters directly whether the company has sponsored TN workers for design roles, not just engineering.
Get your job offer letter written to TN specifications
The offer letter is your primary CBP document. It must state your job title, qualifying USMCA category, degree requirement, duties, and employment duration. A vague letter describing you as a generalist designer is a common denial trigger.
Search for TN-ready roles using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters UX Product Design jobs by TN visa sponsorship eligibility, showing you which employers have active sponsorship history. Use it to narrow your search before applying, so you're not discovering sponsorship barriers after an offer.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation early
If your design degree is from a Canadian or Mexican institution, have your transcripts evaluated before job hunting. CBP officers have discretion, and a credential evaluation from a NACES-member service removes ambiguity at the port of entry.
Understand the Mexican TN process runs through the consulate
Mexican professionals cannot self-petition at the border the way Canadian citizens can. Your employer submits the petition and you attend a consular interview. Build at least four to six weeks into your timeline between offer and start date.

Find UX Product Design JobsUX Product Design TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does UX Product Design qualify as a TN visa occupation?
Yes, when the role is structured correctly. UX Product Design typically qualifies under the Computer Systems Analyst or Engineer categories if the position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as human-computer interaction, computer science, or a closely related discipline. The job title alone doesn't determine eligibility, the duties and degree requirement must align with a recognized USMCA professional category.
How does TN compare to H-1B for UX Product Design roles?
TN is significantly more practical for Canadian citizens. There's no lottery, no annual cap, and you can apply at the port of entry the same day your job offer is finalized. H-1B requires a lottery registration in March and, if selected, you can't start until October. For Mexican professionals, TN still requires consular processing but avoids the lottery entirely, making it a more predictable path than H-1B for both nationalities.
What documents do I need for a TN application as a UX designer?
You'll need a compliant job offer letter specifying your USMCA professional category, duties, and degree requirement, along with your original degree certificate and transcripts. Canadian citizens present these directly at the port of entry to a CBP officer. Mexican citizens submit them through their employer's consular petition. If your degree is in a field that isn't an obvious match, a credential evaluation report significantly strengthens your application.
Where can I find UX Product Design jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces UX Product Design roles from employers with documented TN visa sponsorship history, so you can filter out positions where sponsorship isn't available before you invest time applying. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, which means most UX roles you see won't lead to a TN offer.
Can I switch UX employers on a TN visa without losing status?
Yes, but you need a new TN authorization before starting with the new employer. Canadian citizens can get a new TN at the border with a new job offer letter. Mexican citizens need to go back through consular processing. You can't simply transfer your existing TN the way you can port an H-1B after 180 days. Plan your transition timeline so there's no gap between your last day and new authorization.
