Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship in Nursing
Get your NCLEX-RN before applying
TN visa nursing roles require a valid U.S. state RN license, not just a foreign credential. Pass the NCLEX-RN and hold an active state license before contacting any employer about sponsorship. Credential evaluation alone won't satisfy the requirement.
Target hospitals with E-Verify enrollment
Hospitals enrolled in E-Verify are structured to verify TN work authorization quickly. Filter your search to health systems and large hospital networks, which run dedicated HR and immigration processes that move faster than smaller clinics or private practices.
Prepare a TN-specific credential package
Bundle your NCLEX pass certificate, state RN license, nursing degree, and any specialty certifications into one document set before your first recruiter call. Employers who see a complete package move faster to sponsorship because they don't have to chase documentation later.
Search for TN-sponsored roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find nursing employers actively hiring TN visa candidates. The platform surfaces roles by visa type, so you're not guessing which health systems have sponsored before or wasting applications on employers unfamiliar with the process.
Clarify TN renewal expectations before signing
TN status is granted in three-year increments with no statutory limit on renewals, but each renewal requires your employer to confirm the role is ongoing. Ask HR directly whether they renew TN status routinely and who manages the process internally.
Understand the Mexican TN cap before accepting a timeline
Mexico's TN allocation is capped at 5,500 annually. If you're a Mexican national, confirm with your employer that visa processing capacity remains available for the fiscal year before committing to a start date, since consular appointment availability can affect your timeline.
Nursing TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does nursing qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Registered Nurse is an explicitly listed TN occupation under USMCA. To qualify, you must hold a valid U.S. RN license, which means passing the NCLEX-RN. Canadian nurses can be admitted at the port of entry with an employer support letter. Mexican nurses apply through a U.S. consulate with an employer support letter and are subject to the annual 5,500-person cap for TN professionals.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for nurses?
TN is generally faster and more predictable for nurses than H-1B visa. There's no lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no multi-month USCIS petition wait. Canadian RNs can receive TN admission the same day at a port of entry. H-1B visa requires an annual lottery with limited selection odds and a minimum six-month lead time before the October 1 start date.
What documents does a nursing employer need to sponsor TN status?
The employer typically provides a TN support letter on company letterhead stating your job title, duties, intended length of employment, and your qualifications. You supply your NCLEX-RN pass certificate, active U.S. state RN license, nursing degree or diploma, and your passport. Canadian nurses present these directly at the port of entry. Mexican nurses submit them at a U.S. consulate.
Where can I find nursing jobs that sponsor TN visas?
Most general job boards don't filter by visa type, which means you spend time on roles that won't sponsor. Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for TN-sponsored nursing positions, so you're applying to employers who have already committed to the process rather than discovering their policy after the interview stage.
Can a Mexican nurse on TN status change hospitals without losing status?
Yes, but you must have TN status tied to the new employer before leaving the current one, or reapply at a U.S. consulate. TN status is employer-specific. Starting work at a new hospital before your new TN documentation is in place puts you out of status. Coordinate the transition timeline with your new employer's HR team well in advance.
