Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Psychiatric Nurse
Verify your nursing credentials before applying
TN eligibility for Psychiatric Nurses requires a valid nursing license in Canada or Mexico and proof of a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in nursing. Confirm your credentials match USCIS requirements before submitting applications to U.S. employers.
Target employers with psychiatric inpatient units
Psychiatric-specific units at hospital systems, VA facilities, and behavioral health networks are far more likely to have TN sponsorship experience than outpatient-only clinics. Filtering your search to inpatient and acute care settings puts you in front of employers who understand the filing process.
Search TN-sponsored psychiatric roles through Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate lets you filter psychiatric nursing roles by TN visa sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to employers unfamiliar with the process. Start your search there to reach employers already set up to file.
Get a detailed job offer letter before filing
Your TN support letter must specify your role as a Registered Nurse in psychiatric care, your duties, and your employment terms. A vague offer letter is a common reason CBP officers pause or deny TN applications at the border, so request a precise letter from HR before traveling.
Clarify your NCLEX status with prospective employers
U.S. employers hiring psychiatric nurses under TN typically require NCLEX-RN passage and state licensure before your start date. Some employers will extend conditional offers while you complete licensing, but confirm their policy on provisional employment before negotiating your start timeline.
Understand Mexican TN consular processing timelines
Mexican citizens must apply for TN status at a U.S. consulate rather than at the border. Consular appointment availability varies by location and time of year, so factor in two to eight weeks of lead time when negotiating your offer start date with the employer.

Find Psychiatric Nurse JobsPsychiatric Nurse TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Psychiatric Nurse role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Psychiatric Nurses qualify under the USMCA TN category for registered nurses, provided you hold a valid nursing license in Canada or Mexico and a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in nursing. Your employer's offer letter must describe a role that matches the registered nurse classification, including duties specific to psychiatric or behavioral health care.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Psychiatric Nurses?
TN is a faster and more predictable path for most psychiatric nurses. There is no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no I-129 petition required for Canadian applicants who apply at the border. H-1B selection is random and capped at 85,000 per fiscal year. TN status can be approved the same day for Canadians and typically within weeks for Mexican applicants through consular processing.
Where can I find Psychiatric Nurse jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job seekers. You can filter psychiatric nursing roles by TN sponsorship and target employers who already understand the filing process, which cuts down on back-and-forth with HR departments unfamiliar with USMCA work authorization. Searching by visa type rather than job title alone gives you a much more relevant set of results.
Does my employer need to file paperwork with USCIS for my TN visa?
For Canadian citizens, no USCIS petition is required. You present your employer's support letter and credentials directly to a CBP officer at the port of entry. Mexican citizens must go through U.S. consular processing, which does involve a visa application, though it does not require the employer to file a petition with USCIS in advance.
Can I work at multiple hospitals or facilities on a single TN visa as a Psychiatric Nurse?
TN status is tied to the specific employer named in your application. Working for a second facility requires a separate TN authorization for that employer. If you're considering per diem or contract work alongside a primary position, each employer arrangement needs to be documented and authorized individually before you begin shifts at any additional site.
