Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a People Operations Manager
Frame your credentials around management consulting
TN visa approval for People Operations depends on positioning your HR work as strategic consulting, not administrative support. Highlight workforce planning, organizational design, or change management projects in your resume and offer letter to match the USMCA's Management Consultant definition.
Target employers with existing USMCA hiring infrastructure
Mid-size and enterprise companies that have sponsored TN workers before already have HR and legal processes in place. Search for roles at companies with a history of cross-border hires in operations or HR functions, which signals faster sponsorship decisions.
Confirm the offer letter specifies consulting-level duties
CBP officers scrutinize offer letters at the border. Your letter must describe duties like diagnosing organizational problems, designing people programs, and advising leadership, not tasks like benefits administration or onboarding coordination, which don't satisfy the Management Consultant standard.
Use Migrate Mate to surface sponsorship-ready openings
Not every People Operations posting advertises TN sponsorship explicitly. Migrate Mate filters for employers actively open to USMCA professionals, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already part of the hiring conversation, not a cold ask.
Prepare a credential package before you start applying
Gather your bachelor's degree, transcripts, and any HR certifications before interviews begin. Canadian applicants present these directly to CBP at the port of entry. Mexican nationals need them ready for the consular appointment. Delays in credentials extend your start date.
Negotiate a TN filing date before you resign your current role
Canadian citizens can get TN status approved at the border in a single day, but Mexican nationals wait for a consular appointment slot. Confirm the employer's expected timeline and your appointment availability before giving notice at your current position.
People Operations Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a People Operations Manager role qualify for a TN visa?
It can qualify under the USMCA's Management Consultant category, but the role must involve strategic advisory work such as workforce planning, organizational design, or HR program development. Positions focused primarily on day-to-day HR administration or benefits coordination are unlikely to meet CBP's standard. The offer letter language is the deciding factor.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for this role?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no multi-month wait for approval. Canadian professionals can get TN status at a port of entry the same day. H-1B visa requires employer sponsorship through a lottery with a roughly 25% selection rate in recent years, a long processing window, and significant legal costs. For People Operations roles that qualify, TN is a faster and more predictable path.
Where can I find People Operations Manager jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most job postings don't label themselves as TN-eligible, which makes filtering difficult on general job boards. Migrate Mate is built specifically to surface roles where employers are open to USMCA sponsorship, so you can focus your search on companies already prepared to support a TN filing rather than spending time educating each recruiter from scratch.
What documents does a Canadian applicant need at the border for a TN as a People Operations Manager?
You'll need a valid Canadian passport, an offer letter that details your duties, your employer's business address and intended start date, your educational credentials showing a relevant bachelor's degree, and any professional certifications supporting your HR expertise. CBP officers review all of this at the port of entry and issue TN status on the spot if the application is complete.
Can a Mexican national get TN sponsorship for a People Operations Manager role?
Yes, but the process differs from Canada's. Mexican nationals apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate and must schedule an interview appointment. Annual TN allocations for Mexican citizens are capped, so timing matters. Once the visa is issued, you enter the U.S. and CBP endorses your status on arrival. Consular appointment availability varies by location and season.
