Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Project Engineer
Verify your degree matches the engineering category
TN status requires a degree in an engineering field that directly corresponds to the Project Engineer role. A general science or technology degree may not satisfy CBP, so confirm your credential aligns with the specific discipline listed in the job offer before you apply.
Get your foreign credentials formally evaluated
Canadian and Mexican degrees are generally accepted, but if your transcript uses a non-standard grading system or institution name, a credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized organization removes any ambiguity at the port of entry or consulate and speeds up the officer's review.
Target employers with active engineering project pipelines
Construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, and energy firms hire Project Engineers on recurring contract cycles. Prioritize companies with ongoing multi-year federal or state contracts, since those project timelines create predictable sponsorship windows and reduce the risk of your role ending before TN renewal.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers sponsoring TN visas
Search Migrate Mate to identify companies actively hiring Project Engineers with TN visa sponsorship. The platform filters roles by visa type so you're not cold-applying to employers who don't support USMCA-based work authorization.
Ask employers to include your engineering scope in the offer letter
A vague offer letter citing only the job title is a common rejection trigger. Your letter should describe specific engineering duties, the project context, and your supervisory or technical responsibilities so the CBP officer or consular officer can confirm the role qualifies under the Engineering category.
Understand how Mexicans file through consular processing
Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate rather than a port of entry and are subject to an annual allocation. Schedule your consular appointment as early as possible once you have a signed offer letter, since wait times can affect your agreed start date.

Find Project Engineer JobsProject Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Project Engineer role automatically qualify for TN visa status?
Not automatically. The role must fall under the USMCA Engineering category, which requires that the position primarily involves applying engineering principles and that you hold a relevant engineering degree. If the job title is Project Engineer but the duties are largely administrative or project management without a technical engineering component, CBP may determine it does not qualify.
How does TN visa sponsorship for Project Engineers compare to H-1B?
TN has no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and can be approved at the port of entry the same day you apply. H-1B requires employer petitions filed months in advance and selection in a randomized lottery. For qualified Canadian and Mexican Project Engineers, TN is a faster and more predictable path to U.S. employment than waiting on H-1B registration outcomes.
What documents does my employer need to provide for TN sponsorship?
Your employer must provide a signed offer letter on company letterhead that describes your job title, duties, the engineering field, your qualifications, and your intended period of employment. The letter is not filed with USCIS in advance for Canadian applicants but must be presented at the port of entry. For Mexican applicants, supporting documentation accompanies the DS-160 at the consulate.
Where can I find Project Engineer jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking TN visa jobs in the United States. You can search Project Engineer roles filtered by TN sponsorship so you're only seeing employers who already support USMCA-based work authorization, rather than applying broadly and asking each employer individually about their immigration policies.
Can I switch employers on TN status if my project ends early?
Yes, but you cannot simply start work with a new employer on your existing TN authorization. Each TN approval is employer-specific. If your project ends and you accept a new offer, you need a new TN for the new employer, either by re-entering at the port of entry with a new offer letter or, for Mexican citizens, by obtaining a new consular visa stamp before starting the new role.
