Translate your portfolio into U.S. standards
U.S. hiring managers expect quantified campaign results and brand revenue impact, not just titles. Reframe your Canadian or Mexican promotions experience around measurable outcomes before your first application lands on a recruiter's desk.
Target employers with recent visa filing history
Not every company that posts a Promotions Director role has sponsored work visas before. Search Migrate Mate for employers with recent visa filings in marketing or management roles in your target city—a strong indicator they're experienced with visa sponsorship and may be open to supporting a TN visa application.
Clarify your occupational category with HR early
TN eligibility for this role typically hinges on classification as a management consultant or marketing professional. Confirm which category your prospective employer intends to use before the offer letter is drafted, since the wrong classification can stall your border crossing.
Use Migrate Mate to surface TN-ready employers
Search Migrate Mate to find Promotions Director openings at companies with recent visa filings, so you're not cold-applying to employers who lack experience with work visa sponsorship.
Prepare your support letter before the offer closes
Canadian applicants crossing at the port of entry need a detailed employer support letter outlining your role, qualifications, and TN category on day one. Draft a template with your employer before your start date is set to avoid delays at the border.
Understand Mexican nationals face a separate consular step
If you hold Mexican citizenship, your TN application goes through a U.S. consulate, not a port of entry. Schedule your consular appointment immediately after receiving your offer, since appointment availability varies significantly by location and time of year.
Promotions Director TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Promotions Director role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, but the classification matters. Promotions Directors typically qualify under the USMCA's management consultant or marketing professional categories, depending on the role's actual duties. If the job centers on strategic brand planning and campaign oversight, most TN applications use the management consultant classification. Your employer's support letter must describe duties that align with the qualifying category.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Promotions Directors?
TN is significantly more practical for Canadian citizens. There is no lottery, no annual cap, and a Canadian can be approved at the port of entry on the same day as their crossing. H-1B visa requires entering a randomized lottery with roughly 25% selection odds, then waiting months for USCIS adjudication. Mexican nationals on TN still face a consular appointment, but they avoid the lottery entirely.
Can I find Promotions Director jobs with TN sponsorship on Migrate Mate?
Yes. Migrate Mate lets you filter Promotions Director openings by employers with recent visa filings, which removes the guesswork of identifying which companies have experience supporting work visa sponsorship. That employer experience is a reliable signal that their HR and legal teams understand visa sponsorship processes and can support your TN application, which requires an employer support letter rather than government filings.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN application?
Your employer needs to provide a detailed support letter confirming your job title, your TN occupational category, your specific duties, your qualifications, and the anticipated duration of employment. For Canadian applicants, this letter goes to the CBP officer at the port of entry. For Mexican applicants, it accompanies your DS-160 application to the U.S. consulate. The letter is the single most scrutinized document in the file.
What happens if my Promotions Director duties don't fit neatly into a TN category?
If your role blends promotions with general business development or sales management, a CBP officer or consular officer may question the classification. Work with your employer to ensure the job description focuses on the analytical and strategic components of promotions planning, which align most clearly with the management consultant and marketing professional categories defined under USMCA.
