Align your credentials to USMCA categories
TN visa eligibility for Regional Director roles typically falls under Management Consultant. Confirm your degree field maps directly to that category before applying, since mismatched credentials are the most common reason for TN refusals at the border.
Target employers with multi-state or cross-border operations
Regional Director roles at companies operating across multiple U.S. states or into Canada and Mexico are structurally easier to frame as TN-qualifying consulting positions. Prioritize publicly traded companies and franchises with documented regional leadership structures.
Request a detailed support letter from your employer
Your employer's support letter must specify your regional scope, consulting functions, and degree requirement for the role. CBP officers adjudicate TN petitions on the spot, so a vague letter stating only your title will stall your application.
Prepare for reentry scrutiny as a Regional Director
CBP officers occasionally question whether Regional Director roles constitute management rather than consulting under USMCA definitions. Carry your job description, organizational chart showing your advisory function, and a copy of your degree at every border crossing.
Use Migrate Mate to identify employers actively sponsoring TN visas
Searching broadly for Regional Director openings wastes time on employers unfamiliar with visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters roles by employer experience with work visa filings so you reach decision-makers at companies already equipped to support visa candidates.
File USCIS Form I-129 if changing employers mid-status
Canadian TN holders who change Regional Director employers while inside the U.S. must file a new I-129 with USCIS rather than reapplying at the border. Start the process before your final day with your current employer to avoid a gap in authorized status.

Find Regional Director JobsRegional Director TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Regional Director role qualify for a TN visa?
It depends on how the role is structured. TN visas don't have a standalone Regional Director category, so most applications are filed under the Management Consultant classification. The position must involve providing advisory services based on specialized expertise, not purely managing internal staff. If your role has a strong cross-functional consulting component, it can qualify, but the framing in your employer's support letter is critical.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Regional Director roles?
TN has significant practical advantages for Canadians and Mexicans in Regional Director positions. There's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and Canadians can obtain TN status at the port of entry the same day. H-1B requires a USCIS petition, an employer sponsor registered for the lottery, and months of processing time. For eligible nationals, TN is faster and doesn't risk being unselected in a random draw.
How do I find Regional Director jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most job postings don't specify TN sponsorship directly because employers often don't distinguish it from H-1B. Migrate Mate is built for this, letting you search Regional Director openings filtered by verified TN visa sponsorship so you spend time on employers who already understand the process and are set up to support your application.
Can Mexican citizens get a TN visa for Regional Director roles?
Yes, but the process differs from what Canadian citizens experience. Mexican nationals must apply for a TN visa at a U.S. consulate in Mexico rather than at the port of entry, which means scheduling a consular interview and waiting for visa issuance. Processing timelines vary by consulate. The USMCA eligibility criteria and degree requirements are identical to those for Canadian applicants.
What documents do I need to bring to my TN visa appointment as a Regional Director?
You'll need a valid passport, a detailed employer support letter describing your advisory duties and regional scope, proof of your qualifying degree, and evidence that the role meets the Management Consultant classification under USMCA. Canadian citizens presenting at the border should also carry an organizational chart and their job description. Mexican citizens additionally need a completed DS-160 application and proof of consular fee payment.
