Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Technical Solutions Engineer
Frame your degree against the job title
TN visa classification for engineers requires your degree field to match the role's core function. A computer science or systems engineering degree supports Technical Solutions Engineer; a general business degree does not. Gather your official transcripts before outreach.
Target companies with recent visa filings
Employers with recent visa filings for engineering roles understand work visa logistics. Filtering by employers experienced with visa sponsorship shows you which companies have the infrastructure and experience to support visa-sponsored employees and may be open to TN candidates.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Searching broadly for Technical Solutions Engineer roles wastes time on employers unfamiliar with TN. Migrate Mate filters job listings to companies with TN visa sponsorship history so you're applying where the process is already understood.
Get your support letter details right
Your employer's TN support letter must state your job title, duties, intended length of employment, and your Canadian or Mexican citizenship. Vague duty descriptions are the most common reason CBP officers ask follow-up questions at entry.
Clarify the engineer category during offer negotiation
Not all employers automatically classify Technical Solutions Engineers under the TN engineer category. Confirm with your hiring contact that they'll document the role under engineering, not a general technician or sales category, before you receive the formal offer.
Prepare for TN renewal before your status expires
TN status is granted in three-year increments with no limit on renewals. Start the renewal process at least 60 days before your current period ends to avoid a gap if your employer needs time to prepare updated documentation.
Technical Solutions Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Solutions Engineer role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, if the position is grounded in engineering functions and your degree is in a related engineering or computer science field. The role must require and use engineering-level knowledge. Titles that blend sales and technical duties can sometimes face scrutiny, so the employer's support letter should emphasize the engineering components of the job over client-facing responsibilities.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Technical Solutions Engineers?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start work as soon as CBP approves your entry at the port of entry. H-1B visa requires winning a lottery draw that selects roughly one in five registrants, and approval takes months. For most Canadian Technical Solutions Engineers with a qualifying degree and a U.S. job offer, TN is the faster, more predictable path.
Where can I find Technical Solutions Engineer jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN visa sponsorship. Rather than searching general job boards and manually screening for visa support, Migrate Mate surfaces positions where employers are already prepared to sponsor TN applicants, saving you the step of asking each company whether they can accommodate your status.
Can Mexican citizens get TN sponsorship for Technical Solutions Engineer roles?
Yes, but the process differs from the Canadian path. Mexican TN applicants must apply at a U.S. consulate rather than at the port of entry, and Mexico's annual TN allocation is capped. Appointments can take several weeks to schedule. Once approved, the status and renewal process work the same as for Canadians, and the engineering qualification requirements are identical.
What happens to my TN status if I change employers or move to a new Technical Solutions Engineer role?
TN status is employer-specific. If you switch companies, your new employer needs to sponsor a fresh TN application before you start work, either at the port of entry for Canadians or through a consulate for Mexican citizens. You cannot transfer TN status the way some other visa categories allow a portability period, so timing the transition carefully with your new employer's readiness to file is critical.
