Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Transition Of Care
Map your credentials to TN categories
Transition of Care roles often straddle nursing, social work, and case management. Confirm your specific credential matches a recognized TN occupational category before applying, or your offer letter may not survive CBP scrutiny.
Target hospital systems with care coordination teams
Large hospital networks and integrated health systems hire Transition of Care specialists far more consistently than outpatient clinics. Filter your search by employers who already run dedicated discharge planning or case management departments.
Get your license verified across state lines
TN status is tied to the state where you'll work. If your Canadian or Mexican credential requires state licensure, complete that process before the employer submits your TN documentation to avoid delays at the border or USCIS.
Search for TN-ready roles using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find Transition of Care positions at employers with active TN visa sponsorship history. Filtering by visa type saves weeks of outreach to employers unfamiliar with the USMCA professional categories.
Ask the employer to specify your TN job category in writing
The offer letter CBP sees must name your exact TN occupational category, not just your job title. Employers who are new to TN sponsorship frequently omit this detail, which can result in a denial at the port of entry.
Prepare a degree equivalency letter if your credential is regional
Mexican nursing and allied health degrees sometimes require a credential evaluation from a USCIS-recognized agency before a CBP officer accepts them as equivalent to U.S. degree standards required for the TN professional category.

Find Transition Of Care JobsTransition Of Care TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Transition of Care role qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on your credential and how the employer defines the role. Transition of Care specialists who hold an RN license or a master's degree in social work typically qualify under existing TN occupational categories. Roles framed purely as care coordinators without a recognized professional credential attached are harder to support at the port of entry, so the offer letter framing matters significantly.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Transition of Care positions?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, meaning you can pursue a Transition of Care role any time of year without waiting for a selection round. H-1B requires employer registration, a lottery slot, and a wait of up to a year before you can start. For healthcare professionals with qualifying credentials, TN is almost always faster and less expensive for the employer to sponsor.
Can Mexican professionals access TN sponsorship for Transition of Care jobs the same way Canadians can?
Mexican citizens qualify for TN status under USMCA but face a separate numerical allocation administered by USCIS, so processing goes through a petition rather than a direct CBP port-of-entry admission. The occupational categories and credential requirements are identical, but Mexican applicants should plan for a longer timeline and work with employers who understand the petition-based route rather than the border crossing process.
How do I find employers who understand TN visa sponsorship for healthcare roles?
Many hospital systems sponsor H-1B petitions but are less familiar with TN, which often means faster approvals once you identify the right contact. Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with active TN visa sponsorship history, so you can prioritize outreach to organizations that already have HR and legal processes in place for USMCA-based hires in clinical or care coordination roles.
What documents do I need from my employer before applying for TN status in a Transition of Care role?
You need a support letter on company letterhead that names your specific TN occupational category, describes your job duties in terms that align with that category, confirms the professional nature of the role, and states your start date and compensation structure. CBP officers use that letter to verify eligibility on the spot, so vague job descriptions or missing credential references are the most common reasons for a denial at the border.
