Audit your job duties before applying
Truck Washer roles typically don't qualify under any TN visa occupation category. Review your actual day-to-day responsibilities, because duties overlapping with equipment maintenance or inspection may support a different TN-eligible classification instead.
Request a corrected job title from employers
If your duties include inspection, preventive maintenance, or fleet compliance tasks, ask the employer to document those responsibilities accurately. A title mismatch between your duties and your offer letter is the most common filing obstacle for Canadian and Mexican applicants.
Confirm USMCA eligibility before crossing the border
Canadian citizens can apply for TN status directly at a port of entry, but only for occupations on the USMCA list. Arriving with a Truck Washer offer letter and no qualifying classification will result in a same-day refusal with no appeal option.
Identify employers with fleet or industrial operations
Large logistics, trucking, and municipal fleet companies are most likely to sponsor eligible roles adjacent to vehicle servicing. Use Migrate Mate to filter employers with TN visa sponsorship history in transportation and maintenance sectors before submitting applications.
Understand Mexican applicants face an additional consular step
Unlike Canadians, Mexican nationals must apply at a U.S. consulate rather than a port of entry, which adds scheduling time and documentation requirements. Factor in consular appointment availability when negotiating a start date with a prospective employer.
Get the employer's TN support letter right the first time
The employer's support letter must describe your qualifying occupation, specific duties, credentials, and the temporary nature of the role. Errors or omissions here are the leading cause of TN denials for Canadian and Mexican applicants in manual labor-adjacent positions.
Truck Washer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Truck Washer job qualify for a TN visa?
Truck Washer is not listed as a qualifying occupation under the USMCA TN visa category. TN status requires your role to match one of the specific professional occupations defined by the treaty. If your duties extend into fleet inspection, maintenance coordination, or equipment compliance, a different TN category may apply, but a standard Truck Washer title does not qualify on its own.
How does the TN visa compare to the H-1B for vehicle servicing roles?
The H-1B visa requires a bachelor's degree and subjects applicants to an annual lottery with no guaranteed selection. The TN has no lottery and no cap for Canadians, and processing can happen at the border the same day. However, neither visa supports a Truck Washer classification unless the role involves duties that map to a qualifying TN occupation or specialty occupation under H-1B standards.
Can a Canadian citizen apply for TN status at the border for a Truck Washer position?
Only if the position maps to a recognized TN occupation. Canadian citizens have the advantage of applying at a U.S. port of entry without scheduling a consulate appointment, but CBP officers will deny entry if the offered role doesn't align with the USMCA occupation list. Arriving with a Truck Washer offer letter alone is not sufficient and will result in denial.
How can I find U.S. employers who sponsor TN visas for transportation and fleet roles?
Use Migrate Mate to search for employers with recent visa filings in transportation, logistics, and fleet management. Filtering by sector and employer sponsorship experience helps you identify companies already familiar with visa sponsorship processes, which can streamline hiring timelines and reduce the risk of an employer backing out due to unfamiliarity with work visa sponsorship generally.
What happens if my job duties qualify for TN but my title says Truck Washer?
The title itself matters less than the documented duties, but the employer's support letter and your offer must consistently describe a qualifying occupation. If your actual work involves preventive maintenance, equipment inspection, or fleet compliance, the employer should update both your job title and offer letter to reflect the qualifying classification before you apply.
