Entry Level Transmission Line Design Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level transmission line design job?
Employers hiring at the entry level look for foundational knowledge in power systems, AutoCAD or PLS-CADD drafting software, and familiarity with NESC standards. A degree in electrical or civil engineering gives you a strong base, but internship experience, a capstone project involving line routing or structure design, and any relevant coursework in transmission planning can all give a junior candidate a real edge.

Companies hiring entry level transmission line designs right now include Quanta Services, Sargent & Lundy, and Qualus, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Utilities, engineering consulting firms, and energy infrastructure contractors tend to be the most active employers at this experience level.

Yes, though most openings lean on-site given the field-coordination nature of the work. About 11% of entry level transmission line design openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, concentrated in roles focused on CAD drafting, design review, or data modeling rather than fieldwork or site surveying.
