General Purpose
Oversee Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs for multiple locations in the Mountain Area ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations, standards, codes, and company policies while also managing a team of EHS professionals. Manage the full integration of safety and environmental management into the facility's and transportation operations. Work with location management to ensure the safety and environmental goals are met. Make recommendations to the management team with regard to program implementation and improvements.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Support multiple locations in a complex regulatory framework
- Improve the quality of and ensure the effective execution of safety and environmental management processes following established regulations, policies, standards and best practices
- Direct and be actively involved in a proactive safety and environmental program
- Contribute and engage in the development, maintenance and reporting of PSM, RMP, wastewater, solid waste, hazardous waste, universal waste, used oil, and storm water programs
- Educate, train, and provide support to operations in the development and execution of consistent safety and environmental management programs
- Execute, measure, and monitor process to assess the overall safety and environmental performance and identify opportunities for improvement
- Support the partnership with risk management to identify trends and opportunities for improvements in tools, training or processes
- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental programs
- Direct accident investigation programs, develop accident trends, and develop programs for improving performance
- Manage the program for underground and above ground storage tanks and spill prevention and control programs at the facility and related locations
- Work with transportation safety on common safety and environmental issues related to the facility
- Work with corporate EHS director on setting priorities and goals consistent with corporate priorities and goal
- Cooperate in a cross functional manner as a change agent with all departments within the company
- Engage in the typical responsibilities of a manager requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and delegating. Provide for the management of employees to ensure effective selection, retention, development, disciplinary action and performance management

Requirements
Education and Experience
- Undergraduate degree in industrial safety/environmental sciences or related field (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
- 8 or more years of progressive work experience in safety and regulatory administration (EHS), preferably in a manufacturing or transportation environment (depending on area of responsibility) coupled with demonstrated leadership attributes or supervisory/management experience
- Certification and/or License – CPR/First Aid Certified; OSHA certifications and Certified Safety Professional preferred; other certifications may be required during course of employment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
- Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate performance metrics and outcomes
- Able to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols
- Able to lead others in developing, develop and/or execute strategic plans to comply with existing, new, or tightened environmental, health, and safety regulations, while minimizing financial impact on the facility
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Able to present to diverse audiences from front line team members to senior management
- Able to work collaboratively with employees in a variety of departments and build consensus around key initiatives
- Able to interact positively and work effectively with others (interpersonal skills)
- Able to work innovatively, multi-task, and be performance and quality driven
- Able to organize time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals (i.e., organizational skills)
- Able to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
