Mid Level Transportation Project Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level transportation project manager job?
Position yourself around project ownership, not just task execution. Highlight experience managing budgets, schedules, or subcontractors, and emphasize deliverables you drove to completion. Tailor your resume to show you have handled the full project lifecycle, even on smaller projects, and call out any cross-agency coordination, permitting work, or stakeholder communication you led directly.
Which companies hire mid level transportation project managers?
Companies hiring mid level transportation project managers right now include Amazon, AECOM, and Stantec, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a broad mix of engineering and infrastructure consulting firms, public transit authorities, state departments of transportation, and large construction and civil engineering contractors.
Are there remote mid level transportation project manager jobs?
Yes, though the role often requires some field presence depending on the project phase. About 14% of mid level transportation project manager openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common at consulting firms where planning and coordination work can happen off-site while site visits remain periodic.
How do I move up to a mid level transportation project manager role?
Growth from entry level into mid level comes from accumulating ownership, not just time. Focus on taking on progressively larger project scopes, volunteering to lead coordination meetings, and managing at least one project from kickoff through closeout. Building fluency in scheduling tools, budget tracking, and agency documentation standards, along with a record of on-time, on-budget delivery, signals readiness for mid level responsibilities.
Which industries hire the most mid level transportation project managers?
Mid Level transportation project manager roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Government & Public Sector, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive consistent hiring at this level because they run large, multi-year capital programs that require experienced project managers who can manage complexity and keep work moving across multiple stakeholders.
