Entry Level Underwriter Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level underwriter job?
Employers hiring entry level underwriters typically look for a bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field, plus any exposure to risk assessment or insurance concepts through coursework or internships. Candidates who have completed underwriting-related internships, earned an introductory industry designation, or can demonstrate analytical and attention-to-detail skills in their application tend to stand out at this stage.
Which companies hire entry level underwriters?
Companies hiring entry level underwriters right now include Risksmith Insurance Services, AIG, and Travelers, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Insurers, regional banks, mortgage companies, and specialty finance firms are among the most active employers at this experience level.
Are there remote entry level underwriter jobs?
Yes, though on-site roles still make up the majority at this stage. About 23% of entry level underwriter openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so candidates open to in-office work will find the widest selection of junior opportunities.
Are these new grad underwriter jobs?
Yes, many of the openings on this page are new grad and junior underwriter roles that welcome candidates with zero to two years of experience. A posting is typically new-grad friendly when it lists a bachelor's degree as the primary requirement, accepts internship experience in place of full-time history, or explicitly invites recent graduates and career changers to apply.
Which industries hire the most entry level underwriters?
Entry Level underwriter roles concentrate in Insurance, Banking & Financial Services, and Agriculture & Farming, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026.
