There is no state-issued license required to work as a ux product designer in Michigan. Most employers hire candidates with a bachelor's degree in interaction design, human-computer interaction, graphic design, or a related field, combined with a strong portfolio of shipped product work. Michigan's large automotive and healthcare technology employers often look for candidates with coursework or project experience in enterprise or embedded UX, and degree programs at institutions like the University of Michigan and Michigan State University produce candidates well-positioned for the local market.
How much do UX product designers make in Michigan?
UX product designers in Michigan earn a median of about $102,160 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $49,830 for the lowest 10% to over $137,850 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire ux product designers in Michigan?
Employers hiring ux product designers in Michigan right now include Collabera, General Motors (GM), and Amerisure, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Michigan's concentration of automotive technology companies, health systems, and fintech firms means design roles here often require experience with complex, data-heavy product environments.
Which Michigan cities have the most ux product designer jobs?
Warren, Southfield, and Novi have the most ux product designer openings in Michigan. Detroit and its suburbs anchor the largest share of listings, driven by automotive technology companies, financial services firms headquartered in the metro, and a growing startup ecosystem, while Ann Arbor pulls strong demand from university-affiliated health systems, research-driven tech companies, and enterprise software firms clustered near the University of Michigan.
Are there remote ux product designer jobs in Michigan?

About 60% of ux product designer openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly distributed design teams have become across Michigan's tech, automotive, and healthcare sectors. How can I get hired as a ux product designer in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a portfolio through freelance work, personal projects, or contributions to nonprofit organizations in Michigan, then targeting associate or junior designer roles at mid-size Michigan tech firms or health systems. Companies like Henry Ford Health and large automotive suppliers often hire junior UX talent from University of Michigan and Michigan State design programs. Moving laterally from adjacent roles such as visual designer, business analyst, or front-end developer is also common, and completing a recognized UX certification strengthens candidates who lack a formal design degree.
