Tractor Zoom is seeking an exceptional VP of Software Engineering to shape the future of our technology and build a world-class engineering organization across web, mobile, data science, and Salesforce development.
This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who combines deep technical credibility with the ability to inspire, develop, and scale exceptional teams. You will set our technical vision, raise the bar for execution, and create an engineering culture where talented people are challenged to do the best work of their careers.
We want a builder, not a spectator—a leader willing to dive into architecture, prototype solutions, and work alongside engineers when the problem demands it.
You will also continue leading Tractor Zoom into an AI-first era of software development, aggressively embracing code generation, coding agents, automated testing, and emerging AI tools to fundamentally improve how quickly and effectively we build great software.
Responsibilities
- Lead and scale teams across software engineering, data science, and Salesforce development.
- Define the technical vision, architecture, standards, and engineering strategy for Tractor Zoom.
- Build a high-performance engineering culture centered around ownership, accountability, speed, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Recruit, develop, motivate, and retain exceptional engineers and engineering leaders.
- Lead from the front and remain willing to prototype, review architecture, troubleshoot problems, and work directly with engineers when needed.
- Drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools, including AI code generation, coding agents, automated testing, debugging, documentation, and code review.
- Establish practical standards and guardrails around AI-generated code, security, testing, quality, and maintainability.
- Continuously evaluate new engineering and AI tools that can improve developer productivity.
- Remove barriers that slow engineers down and improve how teams design, build, test, deploy, and monitor software.
- Partner closely with Product and other business leaders to ensure engineering resources are focused on the highest-impact opportunities.
- Build scalable, reliable systems while appropriately managing technical debt.
- Measure and improve engineering productivity, software quality, delivery speed, and reliability.
- Communicate technical strategy clearly to engineers, executives, customers, and the Board of Directors.
- Serve as a mentor and coach while holding leaders and teams accountable for performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years of software engineering or development experience.
- 5+ years of technical leadership experience.
- Proven experience building, leading, and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
- Strong technical and architectural background with the ability to engage deeply with engineers.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate, develop, and retain strong technical talent.
- Experience with modern cloud-based SaaS development environments.
- Strong understanding of AI-assisted software development and enthusiasm for helping engineers adopt AI code generation and coding agents.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technology into business outcomes.
Benefits
- 80% Health, Vision and Dental Insurance Covered

Vice President Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a vice president in Iowa?
Most vice president roles in Iowa require a bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a field related to the industry, followed by a decade or more of progressive management experience. Iowa does not require a state-issued license to hold a vice president title in most industries, though roles in banking may require registration with the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System, and healthcare-adjacent roles may involve Iowa-specific regulatory compliance. Building a record leading P&L responsibility and large teams is the most direct path.
Which companies hire vice presidents in Iowa?
Companies currently hiring vice presidents in Iowa include MercyOne, Viking Pump, and MUTUAL, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Iowa's concentration of insurance carriers, regional banks, and agricultural technology firms means that financial services and agribusiness employers account for a significant share of vice president openings across the state.
Which Iowa cities have the most vice president jobs?
West Des Moines, Clive, and Iowa City have the most vice president openings in Iowa. Des Moines drives the largest volume due to its concentration of insurance headquarters, regional banks, and healthcare systems, while Cedar Rapids benefits from manufacturing and financial employers and Davenport draws from the broader Quad Cities business community that straddles the Iowa-Illinois border.
Are there remote vice president jobs in Iowa?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical fields, since most vice president roles involve on-site leadership, stakeholder meetings, and team oversight. About 83% of vice president openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with remote arrangements most often available in functions such as corporate strategy, marketing, and technology leadership where in-person presence is less operationally critical.
How can I get hired as a vice president in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is building toward a director or senior manager role first, then positioning for vice president internally. Large Iowa employers such as Principal Financial Group and Hy-Vee promote from within their director ranks regularly. Candidates without extensive leadership experience can target associate vice president or director-level openings at Iowa's regional banks, credit unions, or hospital systems, where the vice president title is sometimes applied at a lower threshold than at national corporations. An MBA from an Iowa institution or a relevant professional certification strengthens candidacy considerably.
Where can I find and apply to vice president jobs in Iowa?
You can find and apply to vice president jobs in Iowa on Migrate Mate, which lists current Iowa openings across industries and metro areas. Search for roles that match your background and seniority level, then apply directly to the ones that fit your experience.
