Job Description
Who will you be working with?
You will be part of a cross‑functional manufacturing support organization, working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Planning, Procurement, Quality, and Logistics teams. This group partners daily with shop‑floor operations and design teams to ensure material readiness, configuration accuracy, and efficient material flow across locomotive manufacturing programs. The team plays a critical role in bridging product design and execution, supporting both current production and new product introductions.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the Manufacturing & Supply Chain Operations group, you will be responsible for designing and sustaining material presentation, kitting, and locomotive configuration management solutions that enable safe, efficient, and uninterrupted production. You will support shop‑floor operations by ensuring materials are delivered in the right quantity, sequence, and timing, while maintaining accurate Bills of Material (BOM) and configuration alignment. The role leads continuous improvement initiatives, supports new product introductions and engineering changes, and partners with stakeholders to reduce material shortages, improve flow, and drive operational excellence. You will regularly report progress, risks, and KPIs to manufacturing and supply chain leadership.
What do we want to know about you?
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- 4–6 years of experience in materials management, manufacturing, warehouse operations, or supply chain roles
- Hands-on experience with BOM management, locomotive or complex product configurations, and material planning
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and engineering change management
- Exposure to warehouse layout design, kitting, and shop‑floor material delivery processes
- Strong understanding of BOM structures, configuration control, and material flow
- Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing tools (5S, standard work, visual management)
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data‑driven decision‑making skills
- Effective communication and stakeholder management across cross‑functional teams
- Ability to lead projects, pilots, and phased rollouts in a manufacturing environment
What will your typical day look like?
- Lead and support material presentation and kitting initiatives to improve shop‑floor efficiency
- Define and standardize kitting methods based on BOMs, routings, and work instructions
- Analyze warehouse layouts and material staging areas to identify opportunities to reduce travel, handling, and non‑value‑added activities
- Design and implement optimized material flow from receiving through storage, kitting, and line‑side delivery
- Establish and maintain standard processes for shop‑floor distribution, milk‑runs, and replenishment
- Manage locomotive configurations and BOMs, ensuring alignment between engineering, manufacturing, and procurement
- Support NPI readiness, material validation, engineering changes (ECNs), and production cut‑in plans
- Resolve material availability issues impacting production schedules and takt times
- Develop and maintain SOPs, standards, and visual management tools for material handling and configuration management
- Track and report KPIs related to BOM accuracy, kitting performance, material readiness, and production disruptions

Which companies sponsor visas for logistics managers in Alaska?
Lynden Transport, Crowley Maritime, and NANA Regional Corporation are among the Alaska-based employers that have sponsored work visas for logistics and supply chain roles. Energy sector contractors supporting North Slope operations, including Doyon Limited and Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, also hire logistics managers and have a track record of sponsoring H-1B and other work visas for qualified international candidates.
Which visa types are most common for logistics manager roles in Alaska?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for logistics managers in Alaska, provided the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, operations, engineering, or a related field. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying management roles. Candidates with extraordinary operational expertise may explore the O-1, though it requires a high evidentiary standard.
Which cities in Alaska have the most logistics manager sponsorship jobs?
Anchorage accounts for the majority of logistics manager sponsorship activity in Alaska, given its role as the state's primary freight hub and home to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, one of the busiest cargo airports in the world. Fairbanks sees demand tied to military logistics at Fort Wainwright, while the Kenai Peninsula and Prudhoe Bay areas generate openings connected to oil and gas supply chain operations.
How to find logistics manager visa sponsorship jobs in Alaska?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters logistics manager roles in Alaska by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving you from sorting through positions that won't support a work visa. Alaska's sponsoring employers tend to hire for supply chain, freight coordination, and operations management functions, so searching those related titles on Migrate Mate alongside 'logistics manager' will broaden your results without leaving the sponsored-jobs filter.
Are there state-specific considerations for logistics manager visa sponsorship in Alaska?
Alaska's remote geography creates genuine demand for experienced logistics managers, particularly in industries like oil and gas, mining, and maritime freight where supply chain complexity is high. Employers filing H-1B petitions must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which are benchmarked to Alaska's regional wage data and can differ from Lower 48 figures. Candidates with experience in cold-chain logistics, remote site support, or intermodal freight tend to be competitive for sponsored roles in the state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored logistics manager jobs in Alaska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
