INTRODUCTION
The Help Desk Technician is responsible for providing technical assistance and support related to computer systems, hardware, or software. Responds to questions, runs diagnostic programs, isolates problems, and determines and implements solutions. The hours are Sunday-Thursday 4:00pm-12:30am.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical assistance and support for incoming questions and issues related to computer systems (Windows, Mac), software (Microsoft Office Suite, Web Browsers), and hardware.
- Respond to questions either in person or over the phone.
- Respond to email messages for customers seeking help.
- Assist with Brightspace LMS.
- Ask questions to determine the nature of the problem.
- Walk customers through the problem-solving process.
- Perform remote troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and pertinent questions.
- Install, modify, and repair computer hardware and software.
- Direct unresolved issues to the next level of support personnel.
- Run diagnostic programs to resolve problems.
- Resolve technical problems with Local Area Networks (LAN), WIFI, and other systems.
- Provide accurate information on IT products or services.
- Record events and problems and their resolution in logs.
- Follow up with customers to ensure the issue has been resolved.
- Identify and suggest possible improvements on procedures.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience as a help desk technician or other customer support role.
- Tech savvy with working knowledge of office automation products, databases, and remote control.
- Good understanding of computer systems, mobile devices, and other tech products.
- Proven knowledge of Google Apps for Education and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve basic technical issues.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Customer-oriented and cool-tempered.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field. OR completion of technical training in computer science, information technology, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military, or industrial setting plus two years of experience in computer support. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the office of personnel management.
