About the Role
Uber is looking for a Senior Business Development Associate to join our team. Successful candidates will bring a dynamic combination of strategic thinking, tactical execution, and strong interpersonal skills to maximize value in partnership negotiations. Growing the opportunity for drivers, fleets, automakers, and other ecosystem partners to collaborate with Uber is at the core of what we do: igniting opportunity and ensuring access to the Uber platform. At Uber, we're not only transforming the way riders move but also disrupting traditional car ownership models for drivers. From facilitating vehicle access through partnerships with OEMs and fleet operators to advancing vehicle financing and electric/autonomous vehicle fleet solutions, this role is critical to our mission of enabling drivers and fleets to succeed on the Uber platform.
The Business Development team plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing partnerships across taxi, fleet, auto OEM, vehicle financing, and EV/AV fleet solutions. This role will drive high-impact collaborations with key industry players, supporting Uber's vision to expand access to income opportunities for drivers while advancing our goals in vehicle electrification and autonomous technology.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is equally comfortable building strategy and driving execution, and has the business acumen and relationship management skills to shape Uber's future partnerships.
- Collaborate with senior BD leaders, product teams, and operations leadership to support strategy formulation and identify opportunities to drive significant impact through business development initiatives.
- Support senior deal leads in managing complex, high-impact deals while independently driving smaller partnership opportunities, with a clear path to taking on larger responsibilities as you gain experience.
- Engage with global OEMs, fleet operators, and other partners to build and maintain strong business relationships with senior executives.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, legal, and operations, to ensure seamless deal execution and alignment with business priorities.
- Contribute to Uber's strategy around vehicle access, fleet and taxi partnerships, EV/AV adoption, and charging infrastructure, driving innovative solutions to enhance the supply side of Uber's marketplace.
- Assist in preparing and delivering business reviews for senior management to track progress and outline key partnership outcomes.
- Handle multiple engagements in a fast-paced environment, learning from senior dealmakers while building your own deal-making skills and experience.
- Support and contribute to the development of long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with current and prospective partners.
Basic Qualifications
- 4+ years of professional experience in business development, partner management, or related fields, with exposure to technology, automotive, consulting, investment banking, private equity, or related industries.
- Bachelor's Degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven track record of crafting, negotiating, and scaling successful partnerships that drive measurable impact.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to integrate business, strategy, finance, and legal concepts to lead and execute complex, multi-faceted deals.
- MBA or advanced degree.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust, negotiate effectively, and lead cross-functional collaboration across product, operations, engineering, finance, and legal teams.
- Adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.
- Experience in the automotive industry (e.g., working with OEMs, fleets, or vehicle financing solutions).
- Prior experience operating across multiple global markets in leading tech or automotive companies.
- Curiosity, along with the ability to spot issues, get to the heart of a matter, and articulate plans to address them.
- Passionate about your work and a desire to have a big impact.
- Embody the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and accountability.
- Enthusiastic about Uber!

Which companies sponsor visas for business development associates in California?
Enterprise technology companies are among the most active sponsors for business development associates in California. Salesforce, Google, Adobe, Oracle, and Workday have consistent sponsorship histories for this role. Biotech firms in the Bay Area and San Diego, including Genentech and Illumina, also hire internationally for business development functions. Startup companies at Series B and beyond often sponsor too, particularly those backed by institutional investors with global hiring norms.
Which visa types are most common for business development associate roles in California?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for business development associates in California, classifying the role as a specialty occupation typically requiring a business, marketing, or related bachelor's degree. Candidates with existing work authorization through OPT or STEM OPT are often prioritized by employers during the H-1B cap period. The L-1B and O-1 visa apply in more limited circumstances, such as intracompany transfers or candidates with demonstrated exceptional ability.
Which cities in California have the most business development associate sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and the broader Bay Area account for the highest concentration of visa-sponsored business development associate positions in California, driven by the density of enterprise software and venture-backed companies. Los Angeles follows, with strength in media technology, e-commerce, and fintech. San Diego has an active cluster in biotech and life sciences. Secondary markets like Sacramento and Irvine have a smaller but growing number of sponsoring employers.
How to find business development associate visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse business development associate roles across California without sorting through positions that do not sponsor. You can filter by location to target Bay Area, Los Angeles, or San Diego specifically. Because sponsoring employers are verified, Migrate Mate is a more efficient starting point than general job search methods for international candidates pursuing this role in California.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for business development associates in California?
California's high cost of living means prevailing wage requirements under H-1B rules often translate to competitive baseline compensation, which some smaller employers find difficult to meet. The state's large university system, including UC Berkeley, UCLA, and USC, produces a steady pipeline of international graduates on OPT who pursue this role, meaning many California employers already have established sponsorship processes. California labor law also requires employers to maintain LCA public access files, which is standard compliance practice.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored business development associate jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
