Which companies sponsor visas for manufacturing technicians in California?
Several large employers in California have a documented history of sponsoring work visas for manufacturing technicians. These include semiconductor equipment companies such as Applied Materials, Lam Research, and KLA Corporation in the Silicon Valley area, as well as biotech manufacturers like Genentech and Thermo Fisher Scientific in the Bay Area and San Diego. Aerospace manufacturers in the Los Angeles area, including Northrop Grumman and Raytheon, also sponsor technician roles.
Which visa types are most common for manufacturing technician roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common work visa for manufacturing technicians in California, but it requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field is generally required. Candidates with relevant engineering or applied science degrees are better positioned for this pathway. Some employers also sponsor EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visas for experienced technicians, particularly in semiconductor and biotech manufacturing.
Which cities in California have the most manufacturing technician sponsorship jobs?
The San Jose and broader Silicon Valley area lead California for manufacturing technician sponsorship, driven by the dense concentration of semiconductor and cleanroom equipment companies. San Diego is a strong second, with a large biotech and medical device manufacturing base. Los Angeles and surrounding cities like Irvine and Long Beach offer aerospace and defense manufacturing roles. Sacramento also has growing opportunities in clean energy and food manufacturing.
How to find manufacturing technician visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters manufacturing technician jobs in California by verified visa sponsorship, saving you the effort of manually researching which employers will support an application. You can browse roles by city and industry, which is useful when targeting semiconductor hubs like San Jose or biotech clusters in San Diego. Filtering by sponsorship type also helps narrow roles to those realistically accessible on an H-1B or employment-based immigrant visa.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for manufacturing technicians in California?
California's prevailing wage requirements under Department of Labor rules tend to reflect the state's higher cost of living, meaning employers must offer wages that meet or exceed regional benchmarks for the role and location. This can actually benefit sponsored workers, as certified wages are tied to local market rates. California's concentration of research-driven manufacturers also means many technician roles have degree requirements that support H-1B specialty occupation eligibility, particularly in semiconductor and life sciences manufacturing.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored manufacturing technician jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
