Zoox is transforming mobility with fully autonomous, electric vehicles designed from the ground up for a driverless future. Our mission is to make transportation safer, more sustainable, and accessible to everyone. At Zoox, innovation, collaboration, and a bold vision for the future drive everything we do.
About Our Internship Program

We seek interns who demonstrate strong academic performance, engagement beyond the classroom, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine interest in Zoox’s mission.
About the Role
We are looking for a sharp, detail-oriented Fintech Operations Intern to join us for the summer. This isn't your typical "coffee-running" internship. You will be stepping directly into the cockpit of our brand-new Payments Platform.
As we test and scale our resilient financial systems, you will be the guardian of our gift card allocation and bookkeeping processes. You will literally help Zoox turn on its commercial engine, ensuring that every dollar is tracked and every process runs smoothly. If you love operational ownership and want to see your work directly impact a commercial launch, this role is for you.
In this Role, You Will...
- Take full end-to-end ownership of the bookkeeping and allocation system for Zoox gift cards
- Keep rigorous track of cash flows and inventory related to the payments platform, ensuring absolute accuracy during critical testing phases
- Partner with the broader finance and engineering teams to stress-test our resilient payment architecture
- Don’t just run the playbook—help write it. You will analyze the current operational process, identify bottlenecks, and propose/implement scalable improvements
- Act as a bridge between operations and finance to ensure seamless data flow and reporting
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Operations, or a related field
- Good academic standing
- Able to commit to a 12-week internship during the following summer 2026 cohort: June 15th - September 4th
- Ability to relocate to the Bay Area, CA for the duration of the internship
- Interns at Zoox may not use any proprietary information they are working on as part of their thesis, any published work with their university, or to be distributed to anyone outside of Zoox
Qualifications
- You're detail-oriented and view bookkeeping as a puzzle where every piece must fit perfectly
- You enjoy building systems, organizing data, and figuring out how to make manual processes faster and more automated
- You thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment (like a company launching a massive new platform)
- Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets
Bonus Qualifications
- Familiarity with fintech tools, SQL, or accounting software
- You have a passion for autonomous vehicles, robotics, or mobility-as-a-service
- Prior experience in an operations-heavy role or a startup environment
Compensation
The monthly salary for this position is $5,500. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level of education. Additional benefits may include medical insurance, and a housing stipend (relocation assistance will be offered based on eligibility).
If you need an accommodation to participate in the application or interview process please reach out to accommodations@zoox.com or your assigned recruiter.
A Final Note: You do not need to match every listed expectation to apply for this position. Here at Zoox, we know that diverse perspectives foster the innovation we need to be successful, and we are committed to building a team that encompasses a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and skills.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. Which companies sponsor visas for operations interns in California?
Large technology and logistics companies in California are among the most consistent sponsors for operations intern roles. Companies such as Apple, Google, Meta, Amazon, and Salesforce have structured internship programs that include visa sponsorship. Semiconductor and biotech firms in the Bay Area and San Diego, including Qualcomm and Genentech, also hire operations interns with sponsorship support through established international hiring pipelines.
What visa types are most common for operations intern roles in California?
F-1 OPT and CPT are the most common work authorizations for operations interns in California, allowing international students enrolled at U.S. universities to work during or after their studies. Some interns later transition to H-1B visa sponsorship after receiving a full-time offer. J-1 visa intern visas are also used by companies partnering with exchange program sponsors, particularly for summer operations roles at large California employers.
Which cities in California have the most operations intern sponsorship jobs?
The San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose, Mountain View, and Menlo Park, has the highest concentration of operations intern sponsorship roles due to its technology sector density. Los Angeles follows, with opportunities across entertainment, e-commerce, and logistics companies. San Diego offers operations intern roles in biotech and defense, while Sacramento has growing opportunities in government-adjacent and agricultural operations.
How to find operations intern visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates searching for visa sponsorship jobs, including operations intern roles in California. You can filter by state and role to see verified sponsorship opportunities from employers who have a track record of hiring internationally. Searching on Migrate Mate for California-based operations internships gives you a focused list without having to manually screen employers for sponsorship willingness.
Are there any California-specific considerations for operations intern visa sponsorship?
California's large public university system, including UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UC San Diego, feeds significant international student talent into operations internship pipelines, making employers in the state familiar with F-1 CPT and OPT processes. California also has some of the highest prevailing wage benchmarks in the country, which affects H-1B filings for roles that convert from internships to full-time positions. Interns at California employers covered by state labor laws receive additional worker protections regardless of immigration status.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored operations intern jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
