Which companies sponsor visas for controls engineers in Colorado?
Aerospace and defense contractors are the most active sponsors in Colorado, including Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Intelligence and Space, and Ball Aerospace, all of which have significant engineering operations along the Front Range. Industrial automation firms and oil and gas technology companies in the Denver and Boulder areas also file H-1B visa petitions for controls engineers with relevant electrical or mechanical engineering degrees.
Which visa types are most common for controls engineer roles in Colorado?
The H-1B is the most common visa for controls engineers in Colorado, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or controls engineering. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the NAFTA/USMCA engineer category. Australian citizens working in controls engineering may be eligible for the E-3 visa.
Which cities in Colorado have the most controls engineer sponsorship jobs?
The Denver metro area, including Aurora and Englewood, accounts for the largest concentration of controls engineer sponsorship jobs in Colorado, driven by aerospace and defense employers. Colorado Springs has a notable presence due to military-adjacent defense contractors. Boulder and Fort Collins also generate demand through advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and university-affiliated research and development operations.
How to find controls engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Colorado?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles that offer visa sponsorship, saving controls engineers the time of screening out positions that won't support international candidates. You can search by state and job title to surface Colorado-based controls engineer openings at aerospace, defense, and industrial employers. Migrate Mate's focus on sponsorship-confirmed postings makes it more targeted than general job searches for international applicants.
Are there state-specific factors controls engineers should know when pursuing sponsorship in Colorado?
Colorado's aerospace and defense sector is heavily tied to federal contracting, which means some positions require security clearances that can complicate sponsorship for non-citizens. Controls engineers pursuing roles at cleared facilities should confirm clearance eligibility before applying. Colorado State University and the University of Colorado engineering programs also create a local graduate pipeline, meaning employers in the Front Range are generally familiar with hiring international engineering candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored controls engineer jobs in Colorado?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
