Which companies sponsor visas for controls engineers in Utah?
Employers with established visa sponsorship programs for controls engineers in Utah include Autoliv, Northrop Grumman, and semiconductor manufacturers along the Wasatch Front corridor. Defense contractors in Clearfield and Ogden also sponsor controls roles, particularly for systems integration and PLC programming. Larger manufacturers with dedicated HR teams are generally more equipped to manage H-1B and other sponsorship processes than smaller firms.
Which visa types are most common for controls engineer roles in Utah?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for controls engineers in Utah, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering. Some applicants with Canadian or Mexican citizenship pursue the TN visa under the USMCA, which covers engineers and can be processed at the border. Candidates with extraordinary ability may also explore the O-1A.
Which cities in Utah have the most controls engineer sponsorship jobs?
Salt Lake City and the broader Wasatch Front account for the majority of controls engineer sponsorship activity in Utah. Provo and Orem attract roles tied to the tech and manufacturing industries growing around Utah Valley, while Ogden and Clearfield have a concentration of defense and aerospace employers. Hill Air Force Base's contractor ecosystem in Davis County is also a notable source of controls engineering demand.
How to find controls engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Utah?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters controls engineer jobs in Utah by visa sponsorship status, so you're not sorting through listings that won't support work authorization. The platform surfaces roles from Utah employers in manufacturing, defense, and energy sectors who have indicated sponsorship willingness. Searching by role and state on Migrate Mate gives you a much more targeted starting point than general job platforms.
Are there any Utah-specific factors controls engineers should know about for visa sponsorship?
Utah's growing semiconductor and clean energy manufacturing sectors have increased demand for controls engineers with experience in automation, SCADA, and distributed control systems. The state's university pipeline, particularly from the University of Utah and Brigham Young University, produces local engineering talent, so sponsored candidates often need to demonstrate specialized skills or international experience that complements what's locally available. Defense roles may also require security clearance eligibility, which affects sponsorship timelines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored controls engineer jobs in Utah?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
