Which companies sponsor visas for controls engineers in Kansas?
Textron Aviation in Wichita is among the more active sponsors for engineering roles, along with Koch Industries affiliates and manufacturers in the food processing and aerospace supply chain sectors. Larger industrial automation firms with Kansas operations, including those tied to the Wichita manufacturing corridor, have documented H-1B filing histories for controls and systems engineering positions.
Which visa types are most common for controls engineer roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for controls engineers in Kansas, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering. Controls engineers from Canada or Mexico may also be eligible for the TN visa under the NAFTA/USMCA engineer category, which does not require a lottery and can be processed at the border.
Which cities in Kansas have the most controls engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wichita is the primary hub, driven by its aerospace and advanced manufacturing base. Overland Park and Lenexa in the Kansas City metro area also see consistent demand from automation, defense, and industrial technology employers. Smaller industrial centers like Salina and Hutchinson have sporadic openings tied to food production and energy facilities, but Wichita accounts for the majority of documented sponsorship activity.
How to find controls engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to controls engineer roles at Kansas employers who have demonstrated visa sponsorship activity, saving you time on manual research. Because sponsorship willingness is not always listed in job postings, Migrate Mate uses H-1B filing data and employer history to surface relevant opportunities in Wichita, Overland Park, and across the state for controls and automation engineering candidates.
Are there any state-specific considerations for controls engineers pursuing sponsorship in Kansas?
Kansas employers sponsoring H-1B workers must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which are benchmarked to the Wichita or Kansas City metropolitan statistical areas depending on job location. Kansas is also home to engineering programs at Kansas State University and the University of Kansas, which create OPT pipelines that some employers already navigate, making them more familiar with the sponsorship process for controls and systems engineers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored controls engineer jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
