Which companies sponsor visas for controls engineers in Iowa?
John Deere, Collins Aerospace, Rockwell Collins, and Pella Corporation have established records of sponsoring H-1B visas for controls engineers in Iowa. Food processing giants like Tyson Foods and Iowa Premium also hire controls engineers in automation-heavy facilities. DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data confirms H-1B filings from these employers for engineering roles across Iowa's manufacturing corridor.
Which visa types are most common for controls engineer roles in Iowa?
The H-1B is the most common visa for controls engineers in Iowa, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at minimum a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering. Candidates from Canada and Mexico may pursue the TN visa under the USMCA, which covers engineers and avoids the H-1B lottery. Australians may qualify for the E-3 visa. Each category has distinct employer obligations and timelines.
Which cities in Iowa have the most controls engineer sponsorship jobs?
Cedar Rapids is Iowa's strongest market for controls engineers, anchored by Collins Aerospace and a dense cluster of advanced manufacturing firms. The Quad Cities region, straddling Iowa and Illinois, hosts John Deere's major engineering operations. Des Moines has a growing industrial automation presence. Waterloo and Dubuque also generate controls engineering demand tied to agricultural equipment manufacturing and food processing facilities.
How to find controls engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse controls engineer openings in Iowa without sifting through roles that won't support international candidates. The platform aggregates positions from Iowa's manufacturing and industrial sectors, including agricultural equipment and food processing employers. Searching by state lets you focus on Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and the Quad Cities, where sponsorship activity is highest for this role.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for controls engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Iowa's controls engineering market leans heavily on agricultural equipment and food processing automation, so candidates with PLC programming, SCADA systems, or process control experience in those industries are particularly competitive. The state's relatively lower cost of living affects prevailing wage benchmarks, which employers must meet for H-1B sponsorship. Iowa State University and the University of Iowa also produce engineering graduates who fill local pipelines, so international candidates benefit from highlighting specialized industrial automation experience.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored controls engineer jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
