In-depth background in Agile Scrum development methodology is critical, along with strong familiarity with industry-standard Java frameworks, distributed databases, and cloud environments. You will guide the integration and validation of complex technology solutions and have proven experience with innovative technological improvements including architecture and roadmap working across technical organizations and senior leaders.

Responsibilities:
- Technical & architectural leadership: Design, oversee, and evolve scalable, distributed systems, ensuring best-in-class solutions that meet current and future business needs.
- Team & talent development: Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing engineers, fostering a collaborative, innovative culture with a pragmatic balance of continuous improvement and value delivery.
- Execution & ownership: Lead engineering initiatives end-to-end—from strategy and prioritization through delivery—on complex, high-visibility projects, adapting plans as needed to stay aligned with objectives.
- Performance, risk & governance: Establish KPIs and OKRs to optimize system and team performance, proactively identify and mitigate risks, and clearly communicate progress and challenges to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaboration & innovation: Partner cross-functionally with engineering, platform, design, security, customers, and partners while staying current on industry trends, emerging technologies, analytics, and AI to drive innovation and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing and growing high-performing engineering teams in Agile, cloud-native environments.
- Strong hands-on technical foundation in Java and microservices architecture.
- 5+ years of cloud development experience (GCP preferred) — sufficient to guide architecture decisions and evaluate engineering tradeoffs.
- Proven ability to lead teams through the full software delivery lifecycle — from discovery and design through deployment and production operations — at scale.
- Experience applying generative AI tools or frameworks as an integrated component in software solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the Healthcare, Retail or Pharmacy domain.
- Strong development experience in Java, microservices, and full-cycle end-to-end development from strategy to execution.
- Ability to diagram complex software architectures and communicate engineering ideas to non-technical stakeholders both visually and verbally.
- 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Kubernetes/Docker), and DevOps practices including observability and incident management.

Which companies sponsor visas for senior software engineers in Connecticut?
Financial services and insurance technology firms are among the most active sponsors in Connecticut. Companies like Synchrony Financial, Cigna, Aetna, and Travelers have consistent histories of H-1B sponsorship for senior engineering roles. Defense contractors including Pratt and Whitney and Sikorsky also sponsor senior software engineers, particularly for roles involving embedded systems, simulation, and aerospace software. Sponsorship activity is concentrated in Stamford, Hartford, and Shelton.
Which visa types are most common for senior software engineering roles in Connecticut?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for senior software engineers in Connecticut, as these roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Senior engineers with exceptional industry recognition may qualify for the O-1A. Candidates already holding L-1B status through multinational employers also fill senior engineering positions, particularly at large financial services and defense firms with global operations.
Which cities in Connecticut have the most senior software engineering sponsorship jobs?
Stamford leads Connecticut for senior software engineering sponsorship, driven by its concentration of financial services firms and hedge funds requiring engineering talent in trading systems and data infrastructure. Hartford is the second major hub, anchored by insurance technology employers. Greenwich attracts senior engineers for fintech and quantitative roles. Shelton and Farmington have growing pockets of engineering hiring tied to healthcare technology and manufacturing software.
How to find senior software engineering visa sponsorship jobs in Connecticut?
Migrate Mate is purpose-built for this search. You can filter specifically for senior software engineering roles in Connecticut that are open to visa sponsorship, removing the guesswork of identifying which employers will actually support the H-1B or O-1 process. Connecticut's market moves quickly in fintech and insurtech, so using a platform that surfaces verified sponsorship-willing employers saves significant time compared to manually screening general job postings.
Are there any Connecticut-specific considerations for senior software engineering visa sponsorship?
Connecticut's prevailing wage requirements follow Department of Labor standards, and senior-level roles in Stamford often fall under New York metropolitan area wage determinations, which tend to be higher than statewide averages. The University of Connecticut and Yale University feed a steady pipeline of engineering talent, but international graduates on OPT frequently compete for the same senior-track roles, making early employer engagement important. Defense contractor roles may also require security clearance eligibility, which can affect sponsorship timelines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software engineering jobs in Connecticut?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
