Which companies sponsor visas for backend software engineers in Delaware?
Financial services firms dominate Delaware's backend engineering sponsorship activity. JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Capital One, and Barclays all have technology hubs in Wilmington with documented H-1B filing histories for backend roles. DuPont and Incyte also sponsor engineers in the state. These large employers tend to have established immigration programs and in-house legal support, which makes the sponsorship process more structured than at smaller firms.
Which visa types are most common for backend software engineer roles in Delaware?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for backend software engineers in Delaware, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Candidates already holding L-1B intracompany transferee status sometimes transition into backend roles through multinational employers with Delaware operations. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering positions.
Which cities in Delaware have the most backend software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington accounts for the vast majority of backend software engineering sponsorship activity in Delaware. It hosts the state's largest concentration of financial services and fintech employers, most of whom sponsor technical talent. Newark, home to the University of Delaware, has a smaller but active tech employer base with some sponsorship activity. Dover and other smaller cities in the state have limited backend engineering opportunities by comparison.
How to find backend software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, making it straightforward to find backend software engineer roles in Delaware without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform surfaces roles from financial services firms, tech companies, and other Delaware employers who have sponsored work visas in the past. Filtering by state and role on Migrate Mate narrows results to what's actually relevant for international candidates in this field.
Are there any Delaware-specific considerations for backend engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Delaware's backend engineering market is heavily weighted toward financial services, so candidates with experience in payments infrastructure, core banking systems, or regulatory compliance tooling tend to be more competitive with Wilmington employers. The University of Delaware's computer science program generates a local graduate pipeline, which means entry-level sponsorship competition can be meaningful. Prevailing wage requirements apply to all H-1B positions, and Delaware's financial sector roles are typically classified at higher wage levels reflecting the specialized skills employers expect.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored backend software engineer jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
