Which companies sponsor visas for structural engineers in Delaware?
Engineering and infrastructure firms with Delaware operations are the most active sponsors for structural engineer roles. AECOM, WSP, and Jacobs Engineering have filed H-1B petitions for structural positions in the Wilmington area. Smaller civil and structural consulting firms supporting DelDOT projects and the Port of Wilmington also sponsor, though less frequently. Checking DOL LCA disclosure data confirms which firms have sponsored recently.
Which visa types are most common for structural engineer roles in Delaware?
The H-1B is the most common visa for structural engineers in Delaware, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in civil or structural engineering. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the NAFTA/USMCA engineer category, which does not require a lottery. Australian citizens may also explore the E-3 visa as an alternative path.
Which cities in Delaware have the most structural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington accounts for the majority of structural engineer sponsorship activity in Delaware, driven by its concentration of infrastructure consulting firms and proximity to major interstate and bridge projects. Newark sees some demand tied to University of Delaware research partnerships and regional construction activity. Dover, as the state capital, generates occasional public infrastructure roles through state agency contractors, though volume remains lower than Wilmington.
How to find structural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse structural engineer roles in Delaware without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can search by location and role to surface openings from infrastructure firms, state contractors, and consulting companies active in the Wilmington corridor. Creating a profile on Migrate Mate also helps match you with employers who have a documented history of sponsoring structural engineers.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for structural engineers in Delaware?
Delaware's small geographic size means most structural engineering work is concentrated in Wilmington and tied to regional infrastructure programs, including DelDOT contracts and Port of Wilmington expansion phases. Employers sponsoring H-1B workers must meet DOL prevailing wage requirements for the Wilmington metropolitan area, which are set by occupational classification and experience level. The University of Delaware's civil engineering program also creates a pipeline of candidates familiar with local employers, which can influence hiring timelines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural engineer jobs in Delaware?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
