Which companies sponsor visas for structural engineers in Pennsylvania?
Large engineering and architecture firms with a Pennsylvania presence are the most consistent sponsors for structural engineer roles. AECOM, WSP, Thornton Tomasetti, Jacobs Engineering, and Michael Baker International all have offices in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh and have sponsored H-1B workers for structural positions. Infrastructure-focused consulting firms and state agency contractors also appear regularly in Department of Labor LCA filings for this role category.
Which visa types are most common for structural engineer roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most common visa for structural engineers in Pennsylvania, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at minimum a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. Canadian and Mexican nationals may pursue TN visa status under the engineer category, which does not require a cap-subject petition. Australians with relevant degrees may qualify for the E-3 visa. All three categories require employer sponsorship and a job offer before filing.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most structural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia accounts for the largest share of structural engineering sponsorship activity in Pennsylvania, driven by its concentration of consulting firms, hospital construction projects, and commercial real estate development. Pittsburgh is the second-largest hub, supported by infrastructure work tied to its bridge-heavy topography and an active construction sector. Allentown and Harrisburg also generate openings, particularly on public infrastructure and transportation projects funded at the state level.
How to find structural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters structural engineer roles in Pennsylvania by visa sponsorship eligibility, so you are not sorting through positions that will not consider visa candidates. The platform aggregates roles from firms actively filing Labor Condition Applications, which is a reliable signal that an employer has sponsored before. Searching by both the Algolia-indexed role term and Pennsylvania state filter on Migrate Mate gives you the most relevant results.
Are there state-specific considerations for structural engineers seeking visa sponsorship in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania requires structural engineers who stamp drawings to hold a Professional Engineer license issued by the State Registration Board for Professional Engineers. International candidates on H-1B or other work visas can pursue PE licensure in Pennsylvania, but the process requires verified education credentials and passing the NCEES exams, which takes time. Entry-level sponsorship roles typically do not require PE status, so candidates without licensure can still find sponsored positions at the junior engineer level.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
