Which companies sponsor visas for structural engineers in Washington?
Several established engineering and construction firms in Washington have a documented history of sponsoring work visas for structural engineers. KPFF Consulting Engineers, Magnusson Klemencic Associates, WSP, AECOM, and Thornton Tomasetti maintain Seattle-area offices and have filed Labor Condition Applications for structural roles. Large construction managers tied to Sound Transit's light rail expansion and the Seattle waterfront replacement projects have also sought internationally trained engineers.
Which visa types are most common for structural engineer roles in Washington?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for structural engineers in Washington, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. Australian citizens may pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery. Canadian and Mexican engineers can use the TN visa under USMCA. Engineers with extraordinary ability may qualify for the O-1A, though that standard is high.
Which cities in Washington have the most structural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Seattle accounts for the largest share of structural engineer sponsorship activity in Washington, driven by commercial construction, tech campus buildouts, and major public infrastructure programs. Bellevue and Redmond see consistent demand tied to Microsoft and Amazon facilities work. Tacoma and Olympia offer smaller but steady markets connected to state government projects and port infrastructure. Spokane has a more limited but growing engineering sector.
How to find structural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search structural engineer roles in Washington without manually screening hundreds of postings. The platform surfaces positions from firms that have actively sponsored work visas for engineering roles. Filtering by Washington state on Migrate Mate narrows results to employers in Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, and surrounding areas that are open to international candidates.
Are there state-specific considerations for structural engineers seeking sponsorship in Washington?
Washington requires structural engineers to hold a Professional Engineer license from the Washington State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers to stamp drawings independently. International candidates typically work under a licensed PE while pursuing licensure. Washington's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B roles are set by the Department of Labor and reflect Seattle's high cost of living, meaning offered salaries must meet documented wage level thresholds for the specific occupation and location.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural engineer jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
