Which companies sponsor visas for structural engineers in Kansas?
Engineering and infrastructure firms are the most active sponsors for structural engineers in Kansas. HNTB Corporation, which has a significant presence in Overland Park, regularly files H-1B visa petitions for engineering roles. Burns & McDonnell, headquartered just across the border in Kansas City but serving major Kansas projects, and mid-size civil and structural consultancies working on KDOT contracts also appear in DOL disclosure data as consistent sponsors.
Which visa types are most common for structural engineer roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for structural engineers in Kansas, as the role meets the specialty occupation standard requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in civil or structural engineering. Some employers also use the TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying credentials. Structural engineers with extraordinary international recognition may qualify for the O-1A, though this category is less common in standard industry roles.
Which cities in Kansas have the most structural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wichita leads in structural engineering activity, supported by aerospace manufacturing facilities and ongoing industrial construction. Overland Park and Kansas City, Kansas benefit from proximity to major engineering firms and regional infrastructure projects. Topeka, as the state capital, generates demand through state agency contracts and transportation corridor work. Smaller markets like Manhattan and Lawrence see sporadic openings tied to university expansion and municipal projects.
How to find structural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have demonstrated willingness to sponsor visas, making it more targeted than general job searches for structural engineers in Kansas. You can search by state and role to surface positions at firms active in aerospace, transportation, and civil infrastructure. Filtering by H-1B sponsorship history helps identify employers who have gone through the process before, which is a practical signal of genuine sponsorship intent.
Are there state-specific considerations for structural engineers seeking visa sponsorship in Kansas?
Kansas does not have a state-level work visa program, so all sponsorship flows through federal categories. Structural engineers in Kansas typically need a Professional Engineer (PE) license for independent practice, though many sponsored roles are for engineers-in-training working under licensed supervision. The state's aerospace and transportation sectors drive prevailing wage benchmarks, and employers filing Labor Condition Applications must meet the DOL wage level applicable to the specific Kansas metropolitan or non-metropolitan area.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored structural engineer jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
