Which companies sponsor visas for backend engineers in Florida?
Several large Florida-based employers have established sponsorship track records for backend engineers. UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) in Weston, Chewy in Plantation, Citrix in Fort Lauderdale, and defense contractors like L3Harris in Melbourne regularly hire backend engineers and have filed H-1B visa petitions. Miami's growing fintech sector, including companies like Visa and World Fuel Services, also sponsors backend engineering roles.
Which visa types are most common for backend engineer roles in Florida?
The H-1B is the most common visa for backend engineers in Florida, as software development roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Candidates from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian or Mexican nationals can explore the TN visa under the USMCA. Employers may also support L-1 visa transfers for engineers already working at a multinational company.
Which cities in Florida have the most backend engineer sponsorship jobs?
Miami leads in backend engineering sponsorship activity, driven by fintech, e-commerce, and a wave of tech company relocations from other states. Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton are strong second-tier markets anchored by UKG, Citrix, and ADT. Orlando has a concentration of simulation, defense tech, and hospitality technology employers. Tampa's growing financial services and healthcare IT sectors also generate consistent backend engineering demand.
How to find backend engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search backend engineer roles in Florida without sifting through postings that don't support international candidates. The platform covers roles across Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and Fort Lauderdale. Filtering by backend engineering specializations like Java, Python, or Node.js helps narrow results to positions that match both your technical stack and sponsorship needs.
Are there state-specific factors backend engineers should know about sponsorship in Florida?
Florida has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage comparisons since employers must meet Department of Labor wage requirements for the relevant metro area, not a statewide figure. Miami and Orlando wages are benchmarked separately, and salaries in South Florida have risen significantly due to tech company relocations. Florida universities like the University of Florida and University of Central Florida also produce strong local engineering pipelines that some employers draw from before sponsoring internationally.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored backend engineer jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
