Which companies sponsor visas for backend engineers in North Carolina?
Companies with consistent H-1B sponsorship records for backend engineers in North Carolina include Red Hat, SAS Institute, Fidelity Investments, Lenovo, and Bank of America. Research Triangle Park hosts a concentration of enterprise software and financial technology employers with established immigration programs. Charlotte-based financial firms also file regularly for backend roles in payments infrastructure, data pipelines, and API development.
Which visa types are most common for backend engineer roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa for backend engineers in North Carolina, as software development roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field. Some employers also use the L-1B for intracompany transfers with specialized knowledge. Candidates from Australia may qualify for the E-3, and Canadian or Mexican nationals may be eligible for TN status under the USMCA.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most backend engineer sponsorship jobs?
The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, anchored by Research Triangle Park, is the strongest concentration of backend engineering sponsorship activity in the state. Charlotte follows closely, driven by financial services and fintech employers. Smaller but growing hiring activity exists in Cary and Durham, where mid-size software companies and remote-friendly tech employers have expanded engineering headcount in recent years.
How to find backend engineer visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have active visa sponsorship, making it practical to search backend engineer positions in North Carolina without manually vetting each employer. You can filter by state and role to surface companies in the Raleigh-Durham area, Charlotte, and elsewhere in NC that are actively hiring backend engineers and prepared to support the H-1B or other work visa processes.
Are there university or industry pipelines that affect backend engineer sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina's Research Triangle is closely tied to NC State University, Duke University, and UNC Chapel Hill, all of which produce large cohorts of computer science graduates each year. Many regional employers recruit directly from these programs and are accustomed to sponsoring OPT extensions and H-1B petitions for new graduate hires. This institutional familiarity with the sponsorship process makes the Triangle a relatively active market for international backend engineers early in their careers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored backend engineer jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
