Which companies sponsor visas for medical doctors in Florida?
Large health systems with established immigration infrastructure are the most consistent sponsors. UF Health, AdventHealth, Tampa General Hospital, Jackson Health System, BayCare Health System, and HCA Florida Healthcare have all sponsored physicians through H-1B and J-1 waiver programs. Academic medical centers affiliated with the University of Miami, University of South Florida, and University of Florida also regularly sponsor foreign-trained physicians for clinical and research roles.
Which visa types are most common for medical doctor roles in Florida?
The J-1 exchange visitor visa is widely used for residency and fellowship training, but it typically carries a two-year home residency requirement. Completing a J-1 waiver through Florida's Conrad 30 program allows physicians to remain and work in underserved areas. The H-1B is the standard work visa for attending physicians outside of training, though it requires employer sponsorship and is subject to the annual lottery for most cap-subject petitions.
Which cities in Florida have the most medical doctor sponsorship jobs?
Miami leads in physician sponsorship activity given its large academic health systems and international patient base. Orlando and Tampa follow closely, driven by AdventHealth, Orlando Health, and BayCare's expansive regional networks. Jacksonville has a notable presence through Mayo Clinic Florida and UF Health. Rural and medically underserved areas across North and Central Florida also attract sponsored physicians through Conrad 30 waiver placements.
How to find medical doctor visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate lists physician roles in Florida filtered specifically for visa sponsorship, covering positions at hospitals, academic medical centers, and specialty practices. Because sponsorship eligibility varies by role, employer size, and visa history, filtering by sponsorship status at the outset saves significant time. Migrate Mate allows you to search medical doctor openings across Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, and smaller Florida markets in one place.
Are there state-specific considerations for internationally trained doctors pursuing sponsorship in Florida?
Florida's Conrad 30 program allocates up to 30 J-1 waiver slots annually for physicians who commit to working in Health Professional Shortage Areas or Medically Underserved Areas for at least three years. Florida also requires international medical graduates to complete USMLE steps and meet ECFMG certification standards before licensure. Florida does not have a state income tax, which affects overall compensation comparisons when evaluating offers across states.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical doctor jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
