Which companies sponsor visas for medical doctors in Wisconsin?
UW Health, Froedtert Health, Advocate Aurora Health, Marshfield Clinic Health System, and ThedaCare are among the larger Wisconsin employers with documented histories of sponsoring physicians. Academic medical centers affiliated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Medical College of Wisconsin also regularly sponsor international medical graduates, particularly for subspecialty and primary care roles in underserved areas.
Which visa types are most common for medical doctor roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for physician roles in Wisconsin, though the annual lottery creates uncertainty. The J-1 visa is widely used for medical residency and fellowship training, often with a Conrad 30 waiver pathway that allows physicians to remain in the U.S. by committing to work in a designated underserved area for three years. The O-1 visa is an option for physicians with exceptional credentials.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most medical doctor sponsorship jobs?
Madison and Milwaukee account for the largest share of physician sponsorship jobs, driven by their major academic medical centers and hospital systems. Green Bay, Appleton, and Racine also have active hiring, primarily through regional health systems. Rural counties throughout northern and central Wisconsin see ongoing demand through federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas, which can support J-1 visa Conrad 30 waiver placements.
How to find medical doctor visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters physician job listings specifically to employers open to visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to identify Wisconsin opportunities without sorting through roles that don't apply to international candidates. Searching for medical doctor roles in Wisconsin on Migrate Mate surfaces openings at health systems, rural clinics, and academic programs that have indicated sponsorship willingness, saving significant time in the job search process.
Are there state-specific considerations for international medical doctors pursuing jobs in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 Waiver Program, administered through the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, which allows J-1 physicians to avoid the two-year home residency requirement by working in underserved communities. International medical graduates must also obtain Wisconsin medical licensure, which requires ECFMG certification and passing USMLE steps. Physicians targeting academic positions at UW-Madison or MCW should expect additional credentialing timelines.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical doctor jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
