Which companies sponsor visas for medical doctors in Ohio?
Ohio's largest health systems are the most active sponsors for international medical doctors. Cleveland Clinic, Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, University Hospitals, OhioHealth, and Kettering Health have established histories of sponsoring physicians through H-1B and J-1 waiver pathways. Academic medical centers and federally qualified health centers are generally more experienced with the sponsorship process than smaller private practices.
Which visa types are most common for medical doctor roles in Ohio?
The J-1 visa is the most common pathway for international medical graduates completing residency and fellowship training in Ohio. Physicians who complete J-1 training and face the two-year home residency requirement often pursue Conrad 30 waivers, which allow them to remain in the U.S. by committing to work in underserved areas. The H-1B is the primary option for physicians entering direct employment without J-1 obligations.
Which cities in Ohio have the most medical doctor sponsorship jobs?
Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati account for the majority of physician sponsorship opportunities in Ohio, driven by their large academic medical centers and hospital networks. Cleveland is home to Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals, while Columbus hosts Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and OhioHealth. Smaller cities like Dayton and Toledo also have sponsoring health systems, and rural areas may offer Conrad 30 waiver positions specifically targeting underserved communities.
How to find medical doctor visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, making it a practical starting point for medical doctors targeting Ohio roles. You can filter by state and specialty to find positions at health systems that have active sponsorship programs. Because physician sponsorship involves credential verification, licensing, and visa filings, roles listed through Migrate Mate help narrow your search to employers already open to sponsoring international hires.
Are there state-specific considerations for international medical doctors pursuing sponsorship in Ohio?
Ohio participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, which allocates up to 30 waiver slots per year for physicians willing to practice in designated Health Professional Shortage Areas or Medically Underserved Areas. International medical graduates must also obtain Ohio medical licensure through the State Medical Board of Ohio before practicing, a process that requires USMLE completion, credential verification, and can take several months to finalize alongside visa processing.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical doctor jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
