Which companies sponsor visas for medical doctors in Washington?
Washington's largest physician visa sponsors include UW Medicine, Providence Health and Services, MultiCare Health System, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, and Kaiser Permanente Washington. Federally Qualified Health Centers and rural critical access hospitals across eastern Washington and the Olympic Peninsula also sponsor physicians, particularly for primary care and family medicine roles in Health Professional Shortage Areas.
Which visa types are most common for medical doctor roles in Washington?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for physicians in Washington, though the annual lottery creates uncertainty. The J-1 visa Conrad 30 waiver is widely used for international medical graduates who completed residency on J-1 status, with Washington allocating 30 waivers annually. The O-1A applies to physicians with extraordinary ability. Some Canadian and Mexican physicians may qualify under the TN visa category.
Which cities in Washington have the most medical doctor sponsorship jobs?
Seattle and the surrounding King County area account for the largest share of physician sponsorship jobs in Washington, driven by UW Medicine, Swedish Health Services, and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. Spokane is Washington's second-largest medical hub, home to Providence and MultiCare systems. Tacoma and Bellevue also have active physician hiring, while rural areas in eastern Washington and the coast have ongoing demand through shortage area designations.
How to find medical doctor visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international physicians seeking visa sponsorship roles in the U.S., including Washington state. You can filter by role and state to see medical doctor positions at health systems, clinics, and academic medical centers that have sponsored physicians before. This is more efficient than general job searches that don't filter for sponsorship willingness upfront.
Are there state-specific considerations for medical doctors seeking sponsorship in Washington?
Washington participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, which requires a three-year service commitment at an approved facility in an underserved area in exchange for waiving the two-year home residency requirement. Physicians practicing in Washington must hold a Washington State medical license. The state's strong research infrastructure through UW and Fred Hutchinson creates additional academic physician opportunities for those with research backgrounds.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical doctor jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
