Which companies sponsor visas for medical doctors in New Jersey?
The largest sponsors of physician visas in New Jersey include RWJBarnabas Health, Hackensack Meridian Health, AtlanticCare, and Saint Peter's Healthcare System. Academic health systems affiliated with Rutgers and Rowan University also regularly sponsor international physicians. Community health centers and federally qualified health centers across the state are particularly active sponsors, especially for primary care and internal medicine roles.
Which visa types are most common for medical doctor roles in New Jersey?
The J-1 visa and H-1B visa are the two most common visa categories for physicians in New Jersey. Many international medical graduates enter through J-1 visa exchange visitor programs tied to residency and fellowship training, though J-1 holders typically face a two-year home residency requirement afterward. The H-1B is widely used for employed physician roles. Conrad 30 waivers allow J-1 physicians to stay in the U.S. by working in underserved areas, and New Jersey allocates slots annually for qualifying positions.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most medical doctor sponsorship jobs?
Newark, New Brunswick, Trenton, and Camden have the highest concentration of physician sponsorship opportunities in New Jersey. Newark is home to University Hospital and multiple large health networks. New Brunswick anchors the Rutgers Health academic system. Trenton and Camden both contain federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas, which increases employer incentive to sponsor international physicians, particularly for primary care, psychiatry, and general surgery.
How to find medical doctor visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international physicians and medical professionals seeking visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey. You can filter directly by state and role to see verified sponsorship opportunities with health systems, hospitals, and community health centers. Because physician sponsorship involves specific visa pathways, Migrate Mate helps you focus your search on employers who have a documented history of sponsoring international medical graduates rather than sorting through general job listings.
Are there state-specific considerations for medical doctors seeking visa sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey participates in the Conrad 30 waiver program, which allows J-1 physicians to waive the two-year home residency requirement by committing to work in a Health Professional Shortage Area or Medically Underserved Area for at least three years. New Jersey also has a competitive medical licensing process, and international medical graduates must hold valid ECFMG certification and pass USMLE Steps before obtaining state licensure, which employers factor into the sponsorship timeline.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored medical doctor jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
