INTRODUCTION
The Center for Maternal Health Equity aims to pursue equity in maternal health by reducing maternal morbidity and mortality by building and strengthening community engagement and advocacy. We are seeking a Research Assistant I who will be responsible for updating and maintaining study databases; entering, editing, querying, auditing, coding, reconciling, validating, merging, and statistically analyzing collected data. Secondary data analysis of existing data sources will require data merging, coding, and directed analysis to test research-specific aims and hypotheses. The research assistant will work under the direction of the Project Director/Co-Investigator, and will be engaged in the research endeavors, and is expected to make scholarly contributions to the research specialty by assisting faculty in identifying and selecting problems for investigation, planning experiments, evaluating, interpreting, and publishing results.
This position also requires light travel within Tennessee (occasionally in Georgia, North Carolina, and or South Carolina) for community meetings, data collection support, and partner engagement events.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Public Health or related field; minimum of 2 years research team experience; minimum of 2 years of experience conducting quantitative data and/or qualitative data collection and analysis utilizing software packages such as REDCAP, Qualtrics, R, SAS, SPSS, NVivo, etc. Evidence of excellent data interpretation, oral, and written skills. Experience working with maternal or reproductive health programs and or experience in community-engaged research or implementation studies is preferred but not required.

JOB DUTIES
Description of Job Duty
- Support in the development of research plans, study design, and statistical analysis plans for research and evaluation studies
- Support in training and retraining staff at the TN-based site to carry out research-related activities
- Serving as a point-of-contact (site liaison) for the TN-based site and the Center. Ensuring timely and accurate communication of expectations, needs, and changes as the project continues
- Assisting the TN-based site with data collection as needed
- Performing data entry and fundamental qualitative and quantitative analyses and assisting in interpreting data outputs; selecting the appropriate variable and analysis to test the validity of a hypothesis in collaboration with faculty and resident investigators
- Contributing to the preparation of publications for dissemination, including fact sheets, newsletters, and manuscripts, by providing a thorough literature review and background, methods, and results sections
- Recruit and/or interview subjects; Prepare interview questions, and maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects
- Attend team meetings and events both in-person and virtually as required
- Administrative tasks associated with Center initiatives, and perform additional functions related to research activities
