Which companies and institutions sponsor visas for research assistants in New Hampshire?
Dartmouth College and the University of New Hampshire are the most consistent sponsors of research assistant visa petitions in the state, particularly for H-1B and J-1 visas. Private employers in the Manchester and Nashua corridors, including biotech and medical device firms, also sponsor research positions, though at lower volumes than the academic institutions.
Which visa types are most common for research assistant roles in New Hampshire?
J-1 and H-1B visas are the most frequently used categories for research assistants in New Hampshire. Universities often sponsor J-1 visas for exchange visitor research roles, while H-1B petitions are used when the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. F-1 OPT is also common for recent graduates transitioning into research roles.
Which cities in New Hampshire have the most research assistant visa sponsorship jobs?
Hanover and Durham generate the highest concentration of sponsored research assistant roles, driven by Dartmouth College and the University of New Hampshire respectively. Manchester and Nashua also see activity from private-sector research employers, particularly in life sciences and engineering. These four locations account for the majority of documented H-1B and J-1 research filings in the state.
How to find research assistant visa sponsorship jobs in New Hampshire?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to search for research assistant roles in New Hampshire without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can narrow results to New Hampshire and filter by role type to surface openings at universities, research hospitals, and private-sector employers actively hiring international candidates.
Are there any New Hampshire-specific considerations for research assistants seeking visa sponsorship?
New Hampshire's research hiring is heavily tied to academic calendars and grant cycles, meaning openings at Dartmouth and UNH often cluster around the start of fiscal or academic years. Research assistant roles sponsored under H-1B must meet specialty occupation standards, so candidates should confirm their position description explicitly requires a degree in a relevant discipline. University-affiliated research roles may also route sponsorship through institutional international offices rather than HR.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored research assistant jobs in New Hampshire?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
