Search Teaching Jobs in GeorgiaTeaching Jobs in Georgia: Frequently Asked Questions
Which employers in Georgia sponsor visas for teaching roles?
Georgia's largest K-12 districts, including Gwinnett County Public Schools, Fulton County Schools, and Atlanta Public Schools, have histories of sponsoring visas for qualified teachers, particularly in high-need subjects like special education, STEM, and English language development. Private schools and universities such as Georgia Tech, Emory University, and the University of Georgia also sponsor international faculty and instructors through employer-filed petitions.
What visa types are most common for teaching jobs in Georgia?
H-1B visas are common for university faculty and specialized K-12 roles where the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. J-1 visa exchange visitor visas are frequently used for teacher exchange programs, particularly through federally designated sponsors. Some international teachers in Georgia also enter through the TN visa category if they are Canadian or Mexican nationals working in qualifying teaching capacities.
Which cities in Georgia have the most teaching visa sponsorship jobs?
Atlanta and its surrounding metro area, including cities like Decatur, Marietta, and Lawrenceville, concentrates the highest volume of teaching sponsorship opportunities due to the density of large school districts and universities. Savannah and Augusta also generate demand, particularly through Savannah College of Art and Design, Augusta University, and their respective public school systems serving growing student populations.
How to find teaching visa sponsorship jobs in Georgia?
Migrate Mate filters teaching roles in Georgia specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving you from sorting through postings that offer no immigration support. You can browse verified teaching opportunities across Atlanta-area school districts, private institutions, and universities in one place. Migrate Mate is built for international job seekers, so every listing shown is from employers open to sponsoring work authorization for qualified candidates.
Are there state-specific considerations for international teachers seeking sponsorship in Georgia?
Georgia requires teacher certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission for most K-12 classroom roles, and international candidates must meet the same certification requirements as domestic applicants, which can affect sponsorship timelines. High-need subject areas, including special education, mathematics, and science, tend to attract stronger sponsorship interest from Georgia districts. University roles typically have more flexible licensing requirements compared to public K-12 positions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored teaching jobs in Georgia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
