Which visa types are most common for teaching roles in Colorado?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for postsecondary teaching roles at Colorado universities and colleges, where positions typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. K-12 teachers often enter on J-1 visa exchange visitor visas through cultural exchange programs. Some districts also sponsor H-1B petitions for bilingual or special education teachers facing persistent shortages.
Which companies and institutions sponsor visas for teaching jobs in Colorado?
Denver Public Schools, Cherry Creek School District, Jefferson County Public Schools, and Aurora Public Schools are among the K-12 employers that have sponsored teachers. On the higher education side, the University of Colorado Boulder, Colorado State University, and the University of Denver regularly sponsor H-1B petitions for faculty and lecturer positions. Charter networks operating in the Denver metro area also periodically sponsor qualified candidates.
How to find teaching visa sponsorship jobs in Colorado?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse teaching roles in Colorado without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can search by role type, including K-12, higher education, and specialized instruction, and filter results to Colorado. This saves significant time compared to reviewing general job boards where sponsorship status is rarely disclosed upfront.
Which cities in Colorado have the most teaching visa sponsorship jobs?
Denver and its immediate suburbs, including Aurora, Lakewood, and Englewood, account for the largest share of sponsored teaching positions due to the concentration of large school districts and universities. Boulder is a secondary hub driven by the University of Colorado campus. Colorado Springs and Fort Collins also generate steady demand, particularly for postsecondary faculty roles at Colorado College, UCCS, and Colorado State University.
Are there any Colorado-specific considerations for internationally sponsored teachers?
Colorado requires all K-12 teachers to hold a valid Colorado Department of Education license, and international candidates must meet the same licensure standards as domestic applicants, including subject area exams and background checks. For H-1B sponsored roles, the sponsoring district or university must file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor certifying that the offered position meets prevailing wage requirements for the specific occupation and geographic area within Colorado.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored teaching jobs in Colorado?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
