Which visa types are most common for teaching roles in Arizona?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for postsecondary and specialty teaching roles, particularly at universities and colleges like Arizona State University and University of Arizona. J-1 visa Exchange Visitor visas are widely used for K-12 teachers through cultural exchange programs. Some school districts also sponsor O-1 visas for educators with distinguished academic credentials or specialized expertise.
Which cities in Arizona have the most teaching sponsorship jobs?
Phoenix and its East Valley suburbs, including Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, and Scottsdale, have the highest concentration of teaching sponsorship opportunities, driven by large unified school districts and several major universities. Tucson is the second-largest hub, anchored by the University of Arizona and Tucson Unified School District. Flagstaff also sees activity through Northern Arizona University.
Which companies and institutions sponsor visas for teaching roles in Arizona?
Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, and Northern Arizona University are among the most active visa sponsors for faculty and academic teaching staff. At the K-12 level, Tempe Union High School District, Mesa Unified School District, and Tucson Unified School District have sponsored teachers, particularly in high-need subject areas such as special education, mathematics, and science.
How to find teaching visa sponsorship jobs in Arizona?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters teaching roles in Arizona by visa sponsorship availability, saving time compared to manually reviewing hundreds of postings. You can browse open positions at K-12 districts, community colleges, and universities across the state, with filters for location and role type, all in one place designed for candidates who need employer sponsorship.
Are there any Arizona-specific considerations for teaching visa sponsorship candidates?
Arizona requires state teaching certification for K-12 public school roles, which international candidates must obtain separately from the visa process. This can affect hiring timelines, so districts typically sponsor educators who already hold or are eligible for an Arizona teaching certificate. For university faculty roles, a terminal degree in the relevant field is generally expected before a sponsoring institution will initiate an H-1B petition.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored teaching jobs in Arizona?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
