Which companies sponsor visas for hospitalists in Hawaii?
The main sponsors for hospitalist roles in Hawaii are Hawaii Pacific Health (which operates Pali Momi, Straub, and Kapiolani Medical Centers), The Queen's Health Systems, and Kaiser Permanente Hawaii. Smaller critical access hospitals on neighbor islands such as Maui Health System and Hilo Medical Center also sponsor international physicians, though less frequently. Sponsorship availability depends on current staffing needs and the hospital's established immigration processes.
Which visa types are most common for hospitalist roles in Hawaii?
The H-1B is the most common visa for hospitalists in Hawaii, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a medical degree and residency training. The J-1 Conrad 30 waiver is also a well-established pathway: physicians who complete a J-1 residency can fulfill their two-year home residency requirement by committing to three years of service at a designated shortage-area facility in Hawaii, which the state has used to address rural and neighbor-island physician gaps.
Which cities in Hawaii have the most hospitalist sponsorship jobs?
Honolulu on Oahu concentrates the most hospitalist openings given its density of tertiary hospitals and health system headquarters. However, neighbor islands present real opportunities: Maui Memorial Medical Center, Hilo Medical Center on the Big Island, and Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital all serve underserved communities that qualify for shortage-area designations, which can make J-1 Conrad 30 waivers more accessible for physicians willing to commit to those locations.
How to find hospitalist visa sponsorship jobs in Hawaii?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find hospitalist visa sponsorship jobs in Hawaii, since the platform filters specifically for roles where employers have a documented history of sponsoring work visas. Rather than sorting through generic physician listings, you can search by state and specialty to surface Hawaii hospitalist openings at health systems like Hawaii Pacific Health or The Queen's Health Systems that are actively open to international candidates.
Are there state-specific considerations for hospitalists seeking sponsorship in Hawaii?
Hawaii's physician shortage designation for several areas, including parts of Oahu and most neighbor islands, means hospitalists may qualify for J-1 Conrad 30 waivers more readily than in states with fewer underserved communities. Hawaii also has a state-level Conrad 30 program administered through the Hawaii Department of Health. Additionally, Hawaii requires a separate state medical license, and international graduates should account for licensing timelines when negotiating a start date with a sponsoring employer.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored hospitalist jobs in Hawaii?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
