Which companies sponsor visas for system administrators in Hawaii?
Federal contractors and defense-adjacent firms are the most consistent sponsors for system administrator roles in Hawaii. Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, and Parsons Corporation hire IT infrastructure staff for government contracts on Oahu. The University of Hawaii system and large healthcare networks like Hawaii Pacific Health and The Queen's Health Systems also have a history of sponsoring skilled IT workers through the H-1B visa program.
Which visa types are most common for system administrator roles in Hawaii?
The H-1B is the most common visa for system administrators in Hawaii, provided the role meets USCIS specialty occupation requirements, typically requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. TN visa status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying IT roles. Australians may be eligible for the E-3 visa. Some positions with federal contractors may also require security clearances, which can affect eligibility timelines.
Which cities in Hawaii have the most system administrator sponsorship jobs?
Honolulu accounts for the overwhelming majority of system administrator sponsorship opportunities in Hawaii. The concentration of federal agencies, military installations, and large healthcare and university employers on Oahu drives most IT hiring. Pearl City and Aiea, adjacent to military facilities, see some demand. Hilo on the Big Island has limited opportunities, primarily tied to the University of Hawaii at Hilo and state government offices.
How to find system administrator visa sponsorship jobs in Hawaii?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify system administrator roles in Hawaii where employers have indicated willingness to sponsor. Rather than sorting through general listings, you can browse Hawaii-specific IT infrastructure roles on Migrate Mate and focus your applications on employers already familiar with the H-1B or other work visa processes, saving significant time in your search.
Are there any Hawaii-specific considerations for system administrators seeking visa sponsorship?
Hawaii's IT job market is smaller than mainland tech hubs, so the pool of sponsoring employers is more concentrated. Many system administrator roles tied to federal contracts require security clearances, which can complicate or delay visa processing for international candidates. The Department of Labor's prevailing wage determinations for Honolulu apply to H-1B petitions, and employers must certify the offered compensation meets those standards before filing. University and healthcare employers tend to have established HR processes for sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored system administrator jobs in Hawaii?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
